The Samsung Omnia features a nice touch screen and customizable interface that makes the Windows Mobile smartphone easier to use. It also has a 5-megapixel camera and a boatload of other multimedia features.
"You can't add additional widgets to the TouchWiz interface, and there are some nagging design quirks. The unlocked version does not offer U.S. 3G support, and it's expensive."
"While there are some design quirks, and we're still waiting for a U.S. release, the Samsung Omnia promises to be a solid alternative to the Apple iPhone."

First, I will start by saying that i900 Omnia came out more than 2.5 years ago, so you need to look it in the context. And when you do, you realize that this is a great peace of technology for that generation. My phone originally came with WM 6.1, and I upgraded it on the second day to Windows Mobile 6.5. ROMs to do this are available online, if you follow the instructions to the letter, it's really easy process that takes around 7 minutes. The ROM I used contains modified user interface (M2D), which is way better than the original 6.1.
Good points:
- big screen - it takes lots of space, and provides plenty of room
- excellent synchronization with desktop Windows OS through ActiveSync - comparing to some Android devices, this is a breeze.
- very good battery life considering screen size, this is my favorite, in my opinion better than 95% of Samsungs.
- WM software at the phone runs very fast, faster than some HTC WM models.
Weak points:
- touch screen responsiveness - not the top-of the line, better than Nokias (N97), around some HTC models I had in my hands (Touch and Desire), worse than iPhone 3G, worse than some of the later models like SonyEricsson X8, HTC Wildfire. Again, if you keep in mind that this is 2.5 YO child, it is pretty good.
- screen keyboard is a pain, this is virtually useless if you want to use the usual one it comes with, and I did get the original stylus with the phone. I ended up using FingerKeyboard2, it is the best of what it has to offer, still worse than the one on X8 for example.
- navigation through menus seams to be overly complicated for some things (like reading and writing SMS, checking battery life), I think this is because of the Windows Mobile, not because of the Samsung. Some other things are working perfect like alarms and organizer. I have seen some things on Android phones to be better than this, but some things better on this one (Speed Dial to name one). All comments stated in relation to this are subjective based on my navigation habits and expectations (by now I have used exclusively SonyEricsson as my phone, so it may be up to that).
I haven't written anything about the camera (haven't used it so far) and GPS (also haven't used it by now, a friend of mine uses latest iGo on WM 6.5 on his HTC and it works, so it would for sure work on this one).
To conclude, in my opinion this phone is a very good choice when you compare its price with what this piece of technology provides.
This phone is brand new in the box with 16GB and is really nice. I just got the cell phone 2 days ago and I am still trying to learn about all of the features that is on it. I did not want to pay for a data plan because I would not use it that often but, it has WIFI so I can use it where ever it is available. It also has a GPS and Microsoft Windows Applications. I am really satisfied.
I desired this pda for so long... huge screen, excelent style, sleek, huge 5mp camera, cristal clear sound, 8gb internal memory, great speed, way better than htc tytn, htc touch, an so.
ok, the bad: you need to upgrade the software if you want to have the whole benefit of this pda. i compared the camera against a nokia 5530 and guess who wins? yeap, the 5530. and that one have a 3mp camera!
the touch screen is nice, but htc its just better. thats another software bug. the wireless network is nice too, but i think the iphone is better in that matter.
i am happy with this pda, but dont misundestand this review. if you dont need windows mobile just dont buy this. if you want a ¨fun phone¨ buy an iphone, a samsung jet or something without windows. this is a PDA, there is a big diference. this is not like an iphone and is not a ¨iphone killer¨ as some have said. i need windows mobile because of my job, thats why i bought this samsung i900. it has some weak points but im overall satisfied with my i900.
I do not like the Windows CE, I have it a netbook and hardly EVER use that .and did not realize at the time that it was. It is fine for someone that use the phone for work but not for the average person that wants immediate action as far NOT having to go to the actual pages and open them. It does not automatically open to my network when available, even though I have it set to do that and if you lock the phone you have to back and turn on wireless. It always wants to go to networks that are not set up as the main connection and DOES NOT work on 3G as it is supposed to. Going back to Android or IOS operating systems. Just glad that I did not pay very much for it. I had a Motorola i1 and NEVER had a problem with it and if I had CDMA in my area I would have stuck with old faithful. Like I said as a business phone it would be fine
I was interested to get a cheap smartphone, so I bought that phone. Its looking nice, but little bit slow. I have tried to install skype but I could not, I need to use skype for communication with my family. It has may features like as computer, thats the positive sides. Sometimes I found that the phone was not working, sound system stopped automatically, musics played very slow motion, I could not hear by speaker, but I could hear by earphone. Then once autometically it was normal......Thats the condition of the phone. This is may be due to old version. If so, it should be taken off from the market.
