I love this phone!
The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a terrific interface for an Android device. I love the clickable center button on the bottom to perform task manager type functions or access S Voice, which is a "Siri" like application. The Navigation system is completely integrated with Google Maps, so if you are like me and use google maps a lot, This phone will help a lot on trips.
It is really big, but incredibly thin. I am 6'4" with big hands and I found it more comfortable to use with a thick case, like the one offered by Otterbox. It is a light phone for its size. The battery lasts me about 2-3 days as long as I clear the background running apps from time to time.
Text messaging is pretty easy due to three ways to compose messages. You can touch keys like a traditional touchscreen device (turn the device sideways to get a bigger keyboard). You can also use a swipe method by dragging your finger across the letters of the word. The system will usually intuitively guess the word you wanted. Finally, there is a microphone icon that lets you speak the message, which is then transcribed. When I have something to carry (like a shopping bag or briefcase), this is the method I use.
Google apps run natively on this device, so you can use Google to make video calls. You can easily link the phone to your google voice account (allowing cheap international calls as if you were calling with a calling card). I set my phone up to ask me each time I make a call whether I want to use my Google voice account or just the phone. As a consultant running my own business, I love the ability to switch between my business number (Google Voice) and my personal number when I make calls.
The only downside for this phone is the quantity of background apps that continually reload. There is no simple way to stop unwanted factory installed apps from loading. you have to "root" the phone (or get admin access to it). This may be above your technical expertise.... That being said, background running apps seem to be pretty standard with smartphones these days
Get this phone! You won't regret it.
Who will love it: Galaxy S fans looking for a simplified and intuitive experience paired with Ice Cream Sandwich, a sleek design and ultimate sharing capabilities.
Why it rocks: Snap a burst of photos and pick the best to share with friends in real time. With S Beam, you can instantly transfer pics, music and more directly to another Galaxy S III. Want to stream your snapshots and videos to a TV? With AllShare, you can. When you need a little assistance, your personal, portable helper S Voice answers the call.
Work smarter: Power a small army with ample storage space and Wi-Fi support for up to 10 devices. Thanks to AllShare technology, your work files are accessible anytime, anywhere.
A green machine: Platinum certified, this phone meets the highest level of environmental performance established by UL Environment.
I bought the product initially as a replacement for...drumroll, ANOTHER S3! My husband and I both have this phone and it's been nothing short of a dream. It's very similar to having your computer in your pocket. I can customize the interface so that it functions in a clean and efficient way, making the ease of use phenomenal. My favorite physical upgrade about this phone from the previous S2 model was the addition of a button at the bottom rather than relying on softkeys - in the unlikely event of a crash, softkeys are not your friend! This is a fast moving machine and can be a very good choice for a first smart phone as it's a very simple, very straightforward device. The only fault I find with it is that the battery life on it isn't necessarily super, but that's to be expected with most smartphones. With heavy data usage, I get about a solid 5-6 hours of battery life. Comparing this to my previous LG Lucid and Apple iPhone 4S, it's a big difference. I have little tiny hands, so the Galaxy looked like a monsterously bad decision since I had issues with how big my Lucid was. But it turns out that the S3 is very light bodied compared to how heavy (I know, I know...) the Lucid was, so it was easier to balance in my hands, not to mention that it doesn't decide to randomly reboot on me when I'm eBay-ing on the go. Against the 4S, the S3 is a preference issue, I've found. With many people I've had this conversation with, you're either and Apple person or an Android person. Personally, I'm ambivalent as long as I have a phone that works. In theory, both 4S and S3 do the same tasks with minor variations. Siri always gave me the creeps though, so I've opted to stay out of the iPhone world for now. There's only one seriously glaring issue I would like to point out, depending on your carrier and location, the S3 can have dodgy service. I had an S3 with Verizon in my hilly, farmland hometown and had some of the most unreliable service in my life, but when I moved out to a metropolitan area and switched to Sprint, my service has been flawless. Now, I can't speak for the carriers, this could very well have been a silly issue that only me and a few buddies had, but just keep it in mind and make sure you have a back up plan in case you experience a similar issue (I'd recommend that for any device purchase though; gotta be able to return it if it doesn't work!). In short, I'd highly recommend the Samsung Galaxy S3. It's a solid, reliable smartphone that carries it's weight in the industry. It's good for anyone from your great grandma Mary to your angsty teenager, but keep it away from your 3 month old nephew, the phone wont stand up to well to the might of a toddler.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is a great choice in the market of smartphones. Its rich 4.8 AMOLED screen and intricate design may seem overdone by some, but they are both incredible. The phone runs at a great rate due to the amazing dual-core processor built into the phone. The call quality is not lacking either, with some of the best audio I have ever heard. The camera is on par with other smartphones with an 8.0 megapixel, but what gives it the edge is the HD screen to view the pictures on. All these reasons and more make this phone the best on the market.
I truly still believe that this is SAMSUNG'S FINEST PHONE EVER! THE PRO'S: Very clear and sharp graphics excellent call and talk quality the picture taking quality is OK touch screen is quick and easy to navigate.. THE CONS: Battery life is a little below average.
