This phone was often available new with no contract for $150 with a $50 service card so it's cheap if you have a brain. Do not overpay. The amoled display is visible in any condition other than direct bright sunlight so if in the desert stick in in your shadow and use it!
the only downside is the lack of android 4.0 and the small ram. If you root this phone, you solve the ram issue. Out of the box this phone is fine, but rooting and elimination of the bloatware makes this phone lightning fast unless you confuse your phone with your laptop. (Unless you root, Playing a game, then putting it into pause while you take a phone call while you simultaneously web browse for the restaurant your sweety on the phone wants to go to might well overtax it, but phoning and browsing simultaneously is not a problem even right out of the box)
NO problem syncing with corporate MS Outlook with the software that comes with it. I have more than 2000 contacts in my corporate Outlook and now I can call any of them, wherever I am. Search by name, caller ID etc etc are fine. I purchased it to do business 18/7. (yep I shut the thing off sometimes.)
Like another reviewer, occasionally my phone does not recognize that I have gone from a no-service area to a service area, but you can go in and out of flight mode to solve that problem. That process is much faster than rebooting. I think that's a t-mobile network configuration rather than a phone problem. Both of my family's ancient, reliable Nokia flipphones simultaneously developed that problem, so I do not blame the handsets.
I use it as an mp3 player frequently; I do not do movies much. With a set of computer speakers in flight mode it's a great alarm clock. You choose the music. Web brousing works fine, it's great in 4g and acceptable in Edge. Screen is responsive. It's a functional, versatile android smart phone with a great display. I've never had a battery problem if I charge every night, and with using it only as a phone and an hour of MP3's I charge every two days. Root it to get the bloatware out and it moves from a great bargain at to a fantastic bargain.
Like any android phone it takes a while to master. I have mine set up so that my #4 home screen has email, messaging, web, active aps, alarm clock, mp3, settings, my device, and camera. I can get to what I want super-quick because these items cover 95% of my uses.
Are you having battery problems? Learn to shut off apps from the the active applications window. While you are there learn to clear inactive programs from ram to ameliorate the ram-size issue.
At this price this phone's display and functionality make the learning worthwhile. Learn android now before you get too old (I am 54) and then learning your next android smartphone will be an evolution, not a steep climb.
To heck with the iphone, Apple's greedy demand for a hefty share of all Iphone software sales, lack of user's control of the inner systems, etc. At 1/3 the price with no contract or even better if you get a deal on Ebay, the smart money is on the samsung galaxy s 4g
Lets start from the top.
I. Price
For $290 you can't get anything better than the S4G. The price suits the phone too well.
II. Screen
I have never seen anything this clear. The Super AMOLED screen is brigher an clearer than any other screen. The amount of pressure that you have to put on it is very light, and the four inches of greatness is perfect for movies...
III. Processor
A 1ghz processor isn't what it used to be now that dual-core phones are coming out. But this is unbelivibly fast compared to other phones...Play games, watch movies, work, etc at full speed with this phone.
IV. Battery
For an android phone, the battery lasts prettly long. But then again the amount depends on what your running.
T-Mobile's Galaxy S phone the Vibrant is a great phone. The 1Ghz processor flies and the screen stays vibrant even in the brightest sun.
Like its Galaxy S siblings, Vibrant offers nearly all the modern cell Android 2.2 amenities – 7.2 Mbps 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, a speedy 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 5-megapixel camera and HD (720p resolution, 30 frames per second) video recorder, Bluetooth 3.0, six-axis sensor for enhanced gaming, 16GB internal memory, and SWYPE text input, as well as Samsung’s “Social Hub,” which aggregate updates from your Facebook, Twitter and MySpace accounts.
I would definitely recommend this phone to someone looking for a great phone, with good features and a nice interface.
Out of the box it's not super great. Missing basic tools/features but are easily downloaded for free through the app store. Touch screen very responsive and swipe texting is very accurate. Should have created separate buttons for locking/turning off the phone. The lock button is something that is pressed many times a day before it goes in your pocket, but when it doubles as a power button... you can see the conflict. When I go into an area that loses service, it will not come back even if I return to a 'good' area. A phone restart (at least for me) is required for service to return. The wifi works great, as does the camera/video recorder. Search button on the bottom right is a waste of space considering the phone comes with the optional search bar on your home screen. For the price it's probably one of the better 4G phones out there. Even though it's not the greatest phone on the market, it can hold its own against them. I give this phone a 4/5.
Great phone great display screen not too big not to small perfectly fits. The 1GHz processor makes it fast on Walmart family mobile network, easily Skype with great front facing camera.
It has a good battery life works for me all day at work.
I think I got it for a good price considering it's a 4 g phone. All in all it's a great phone wish it had a flash for the camera but even.without the flash it still takes great pictures.
Very happy no disappointmens.
