I bought this phone used 2 weeks ago. I put it on Walmart's Family Plan through T-Mobile.
The plan alone is great with great reception (tmobile towers, unlimited national talk/text with 250mb 4g web/unlimted 2G web 45$/month), but that aside, this phone is AWESOME! i can honestly say its the best smartphone Ive had yet. Its got everything - GPS, compass, radio, flash, front camera, extra memory, fast cpu, secondary gpu, and more! the ONLY thing it doesn't have is a stand on the back for watching movies, and a slide out keyboard, but i can live without it. Besides, the alignment and touch-sensitivity is PERFECT, at least for my BIG fingers! The front camera is DECENT (no flash), but the back/main camera is INSANE! Don't let the 3MP fool you; with automatic lighting correction, high speed focus/shutter, and a quality zoom, it allows you to take pictures rivaling the quality of cameras in the 4-6 MP range, though not as large. The battery was used as well as the phone, and it STILL holds its charge! My Exhibit II can easily stay on for 2 whole days with ACTIVE use! I havent seen a phone do that since the black and white days when texting was an awesome new feature!!
The customized android OS is incredibly stable so far. Its got fancy animations to show off to your friends, and has plenty of convenient shortcuts and tweaks to make your fast pace life go even faster.
Google voice works seamlessly with it (except the voice-mail, but that's because of my plan, not the phone) and the 3-4G internet ACTUALLY goes above 500+kbs!..AND THE BROWSER HASN'T FROZE YET!
the only problem Ive had so far is rooting. other than flashing the ROM, i cant seem to unlock the file system or get admin privileges, but i like the ROM so much im going to leave it stock for awhile.
Another downside is the amount of bloatware included with the phone. I figure at least 50MB is wasted in preloaded apps that most people will never use. (if i can figure out how to root, then those wont be a problem for long!)
i HIGHLY recommend this phone to anyone! (I like this phone more than the Tmobile TAP!, HTC Mytouch Slide 3g, HTC/Tmobile G2, or HTC Thunderbolt!!!)
UPDATE 8/8/12: rooted smartphone by using simple recovery boot, and installing su/busybox .zip in recovery mode...i guess i was trying too hard since it was so easy!
battery last a day with heavy use, abt 2 days w/ calls total abt 4 hrs talk time.
One major downfall so far is even though the phone is incredibly fast at on the fly processing, it often locks up for a second or two when starting up a new process. This is likely becase of the insane amount of bloatware included with the stock OS/ROM. after rooting and removing most of it, the lockups dropped to less then half, and less then half the duration when they did occur. And even WITH the bloatware, i go back to saying the phone is still quite fast! and, it still has plenty of internal memory (1.61 GB after format, ~1gb free). Camera flash isnt very bright neither, but does the job.
Once I flashed with cyanogenmod 9, all the cons disappeared! (except flashlite)
the phone is quite durable, though it takes scratches easily. all in all, its a budget phone; bottom of the top line thats still better then top of the bottom line! I still ***** (5star) it to anyone wanting a GREAT phone for under $200!!
Its very hard to believe this product is not from HTC, but Samsung (whom ive had HORRIBLE experiences with times in the past)..they finally did it rite
I was looking for the smallest android phone I could find for T-Mobile contract. The screen is big and colors are vibrant and clear. I like the Google speech feature esp. for texting and searching for something on the internet, so you don't have to type. This phone is an improvement over my T-Mobile My Touch Slide, and G1 before that. Faster operating system plus 4G where available. It is taking me a while to figure out how to bounce from screen to screen - you can talk and browse the web at the same time. To answer the phone you have to swipe horizontally - I find that a little tricky for some reason. The phone speaker feature is loud and clear - I usually only use it on half or less volume. The sound quality is very good for conversation or listening to the navigation. It is nice and thin, but it is really slippery, so you really need some kind of case for it, because if the phone falls on the ground, the back falls off and the battery falls out every single time. They make a lot of cool cases for the phone too. The downside to that is that cases add bulk. They should have just made a non-slip back on the phone. Overall I am very happy with the phone. It is kind of a fun toy too because you can browse the net from almost anywhere (in an urban area) get apps, check your corporate email (not all smartphones are able to do this) or webmail , texting, etc.
After 10 days, I'm pleasantly surprised. My Samsung Gravity Smart had too little ram to use with apps. This Galaxy Exhibit II (Galaxy W outside of the US) has got 512mb of ram, or 140-170mb after all the apps load, plus 2gb built-in storage, which is better than my Gravity Smart, which had 384mb ram, leaving only 10-20mb after the apps loaded. The lcd has good clarity, vivid colors, and is 3.7", enough to read or watch video, although 4-5" would be better. It has a front-facing camera (as well as rear) so I was able to do my first video phone call using the Tango app. It is slim and light-weight. The battery drains faster than my Smart's did, although I solved that by buying an extra battery and an external charger for roughly $3.00 apiece. It can also be used as a wifi hotspot for tablets, and the Foxfi app lets you do that without paying extra to the phone company, provided you already have a phone data plan. You can get these on Ebay for $90.00 to $150 (I paid $110.00 with shipping), while they cost $190.00 at Walmart, much cheaper than getting a new one or a fancier Galaxy S III, Droid Razr Maxx or I-phone with an expensive contract and down payment of $50.00-200.00. Occasionally it freezes and must be restarted, but it is a minor problem and not frequent. The accelerometer can sometimes be slow to respond, or be too quick to switch from portrait to landscape. So overall I would recommend it.
Everything you need in an android smartphone without the large price tag! It has all the necessities; 3g/4g data, wifi, bluetooth, gps, camera with flash, and pretty good call quality. Its pretty small and thin so you wont really notice it in your pocket. Screen resolution is just right for the 3.7" screen size. Seems to run all apps I've thrown at it just fine including a semi-new game (world of goo).
Only things to complain about is that it feels a little dinky and the battery cover slips off sometimes so it's a good idea to get a case. Also my old phone had a hole to attach a lanyard which made me feel secured to my phone.. this one does not have one which dissapointed me somewhat.
The phone is so bad I had to go back to my blackberry and it is now collecting dust. It was small so typing on it was hard, you do not get read receipts for mail sent and it was hard to see screen when outdoors. The battery life was the worst. I guess this phone is not for business needs.
