    Reviews & Research

    CNET Editors' reviewGood

    • THE GOOD

The Samsung Behold has an attractive design with a responsive touch screen. The feature set offers a range of options and call and photo quality meet the mark. Also, T-Mobile's 3G network is lightning fast.

    • THE BAD

The Samsung Behold lacks Wi-Fi and its memory card slot is in an inconvenient location. Speakerphone quality was just average and the Web browser wasn't quite up to par.

    • THE BOTTOM LINE

Though it lacks Wi-Fi, the Samsung Behold is a sleek touch-screen phone with a range of features and an easily understood interface.

$50 is good to have it.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The good: easy use. Lots of functions such as camera, video as camcorder, expand momory slot, Music player, bluetooth and weekday alarm. auto update date and time which is good.
auto adjust light on displayer good to use under sunlight.

The bad: Touch screen is broken down easily. Dust get in gap between digitize and frame (hosing)cause lots of problems in functions. Update never going to work.
No stander jack for charging and headphone.

Behold SGH-T919 - Touch Phone With Some Great Points

I used the Behold for about five weeks before moving on to a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. In that time I found some things to love and things to make this the "most likely to be thrown across the room" device of the year.

    What I liked-

    User Interface-
The Samsung interface is easy to learn for the basic functions. Calling, texting, sending an MMS and using the internet are a snap. Getting into some of the deeper functions required either taking notes or having an incredible memory. Most folks don't delve too deeply on a regular basis into their phone's menu. I like to play with my phone and the deeper I got into the menu the more lost I became.

    Wireless Network-
I liked the WiFi connectivity this device offered. Entering the shared passkey for my wireless network was simple and straight-forward. This sped up my Internet browsing compared to the, at that time, 2G connection T-Mobile offered in my market. The web browsing itself was not that super of an experience because of the limitations of the browser.

    Camera
I liked the camera. Having 5 mp to play with on a phone wasn't new to me. I'd used a SGH-G600, on and off, for several months. The camera took acceptable pictures, nothing mind blowing, but good enough for posting on the web. Video was okay, again, not mind blowing.

    Construction-
All Metal case. This is a tough phone. It is packaged to take the small bumps and hits that a phone in a pocket is going to take.

    Battery Life-
Battery life is another good point of this device. It held onto a charge for a long time with moderate use.

    What I Disliked

    Samsung User Interface-
Scrolling through photos on the photo browser was an exercise in frustration. After calling Samsung Support I determined that I needed to store my photos on the microSD card. This slowed down the process enough that I could smoothly scroll and stop where I wanted to. With images stored on device there was no real control.

    Address Book-
The address book was the most frustrating experience about this phone. Again, control of scrolling was the issue. The address book resides on device so there was no way to make the phone scroll at a slower pace so as to allow for stopping with any sort of predictability. This is what earned it the "most likely to be thrown across the room" honors.

    The Wrap-
That's about all I really disliked. There were other, smaller issues with the phone but those are idiosyncratic to me.

For the bulk of the time I've had a mobile phone I've used a Nokia as my main device. The six weeks I used this as my main device was the longest stretch of time I didn't have a Nokia as my main phone. I liked using the Behold while I had it but once I got the Nokia 5800 I knew it was time to move it on.

To sum it up: This is a tough phone with good standard features, an acceptable camera, wireless network connectivity and a speedy user interface that I found difficult to control.

a very good camera phone for starters

this is my first tft phone. i was quite pleased with what it offered out of the box. especially the 5mp camera with LED flash. this phone has limited widgets but this is not to say its bad. it has mp3 player, txt, email, im, calendar and all the basics you would need that any regular cell phone will have. the size and weight is not big at all. it is quite slim and fits in the front jean pocket without issues.

i did find a few things that irked me. i was so used to my non smart candy bar nokia 6301 and took all of its features for granted. the txt function of this cell phone defaults to T9 which i hate using. theres no way to set it to regular abc key-in. i have to keep remembering to change the T9 before i can type. another function that i found clumsy was their "send to" option after you take a picture. you can't turn off their option for you to "send to". you also can not turn off the sound of the camera clicking when you take a picture like you can with other regular cellular phone cameras that i have used.

all in all, this is a great starter "smart phone". its full of features and made with excellent quality. if you are a feature hungry picky sob like me, then you might get bored of this phone and find yourself looking around for something better.

    Samsung Behold

This phone is not at all what i expected..the touch/ scrolling aspect of it sucks..u end up clicking things u dont want to..the battery uncharges QUICK..the only things i really enjoy are the web, and music player..the camera drags, u have to hold the button down for like 5 seconds before it even snaps ( by that time the person has moved and the pic is blurry ) And I advise to becareful when buying off ebay..especially when getting used items. ASK FOR MANY PICTURES AND BETTER DESCRIPTIONS!!!!

    Samsung Behold

To keep it short and brief I'll just say what I don't like about the phone.

The lack of wifi is a drawback and the sluggish camera but not enough to not buy this phone if you have $200 to spend. It takes way to long for the camera to snap a picture and that could be a very annoying thing if you're trying to snap something passing by you. Who actually stand there for a whole minute waiting for a camera to snap pics these days?

Another thing I didn't really like is the resolution size. It's stuck at 320x240 which means you don't get full screen mode when watching a movie. kinda a waste to have all those screen space and not being able to use it all.

However, with that being sad, I find it to be a pretty awesome phone. Qwerty keyboard in landscape mode and GPS with external micro SD card slot that is capable of 8gb in size. that's just too AWESOME!
