Saints Row 2 - What makes this so great?

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Ok, first off, Saints Row 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. The amount of gameplay hours is amazing! Alright let's jump in, I'll try not to write too much...

    Story
The story is great! You just escaped from jail after being in a coma for many years. There are 3 new gangs taking their stake of the city, and you want it all to yourself. The 3 gangs are the Brotherhood, Sons of Saumbi, and the Ronin. There are 3 seperate storylines for each gang, and you can choose which missions you want to do, whenever you want. You will really get into it and want to know what happens next. If you've ever played GTA, you'll be pleasently surprised by how interesting the story is.

    Gameplay
The gameplay is smooth and there is so much to do. The map is pretty big, but not too big that it seems like there's too much traveling. Besides missions markers, your map is filled with stores such as gun stores, clothing stores, tatoo parlor, restaurants, liquior stores, car stores, mechanic shops, and more. You can rob stores, or just spend money at them (lol). There is also side activity markers on your map. These are activities you can do for extra money and respect (respect needed to do missions). The side activites are AMAZING. Every one of them is extremely fun and has 6 levels of difficulty. The missions and the side missions alone are 50+ hours of gameplay.

    Customization
The amount of options you have on this game is overwhelming!!! In the beginning of the game you will spend 15 minutes deciding on a hair style (not kidding). In addition to the beginning of the game, you also have clothes stores which offer a wide variety of clothes that you can change the color and design of. And back in your crib, you have a wardrobe where all your clothes are automatically stashed and you can change your clothes there whenever.

This game has a LOT of cars. And to make it even better, they are all customizable in the mechanic shop. You can change the wheels, the hood, the spoiler, the color, the grill, make it a convertable...anything! You will spend hours customizing cars! Now unlike some games (GTA), in Saints Row you have a garage outside your crib. It's more like a space you park your car in than a garage. And here's the best part...The garage has almost infinite storage space (I've never filled it and I've tried) and your cars always return to your garage even if you accidently blow them up or leave them somewhere!!! AND you can use your phone to call a homie that will bring a car from your garage to you in seconds! If that's not enough you can always call a taxi and go anywhere instantly...anyway it's all great.

    Coop
The coop makes this game stand out from any other ever made. Saints Row 2 is 100% coopable!!!! That means you can hop into your friends world anytime you want and you can do missions together, do side activities together, rob stores together, go crazy, do whatever you want! This game's coop never feels forced either, all the coop in activities and everything works smoothly like it was made for coop.

    Multiplayer
The online multiplayer is underated in my opinion. It consists of 2 game modes and around 10 maps. It is really fun and I won't get into detail, and unfortunately not a ton of people play it. You shouldn't have a problem getting a match though.

    Replay Value
This game has one of the best replay values I've ever

Saint Rows 2 - Anti GTAIV

Review For: Saints Row 2 (Sony Playstation 3, 2008)

Saints Row 2 is the sequel to an xbox 360 only open world crime game. It is impossible to not compare this game to Grand Theft Auto 4 but if you give both of them an impartial look, they play very differently. Perhaps the best way to describe Saints Row is the "anti-GTA 4".

GTA 4 was one of the most massive games ever created. The expansiveness of Liberty City can be a bit daunting. The whole game just oozes polish from every polygon. The amount of resources that Rockstar must have poured into the making of the game must have been staggering. If this is the case, why are so many people's copies gathering dust? I can only speak for myself, but the game was lacking one very important thing. The game was just not fun. Despite all the polish, the voice acting, the story, I just didn't enjoy it.

The reason why I say all of this is because Saints Row 2 is almost the complete opposite. It is one of the most fun games I have played in recent memory. Then when you bring a friend along in co-op it just gets insane. Playing with another person over PSN is a blast as you cover each other's back blasting gangmembers, cops, and the Ultor corporation. It's hard not to crack a smile when your partner is speeding down the wrong side of a highway weaving through traffic while your blowing away your motorcycle riding pursuers with a grenade launcher. Not to mention the heaploads of customization options you can make to your protagonist, your cars, your houses, and your gangs. You can invite someone over just to show them your super tricked out rides.

Not that the game is perfect. The graphics are good, but not necessarily great. The colors in certain areas can seem a little washed out. The shooting mechanics could use a cover system a la gta 4, but you can grab anyone nearby and use them as a human shield which works out pretty good as well. Also the game has a plethora of adult situations and very coarse language. I'm not very squeamish when it comes to exposing responsible kids to a some PG-13 or even light rated R kind of stuff, but the thought of playing this game around an impressionable child makes me uneasy and probably shouldn't be done. So if you have young ones, definitely have them occupy themselves in another room or wait until after bedtime to bust this baby out.

All in all, if you even a casual fan of open world crime games, you owe it to yourself to at least give Saints Row 2 a try. Heck, you can even hit me up and I'll play with ya!!! PSN ID flickorp

What GTA IV should have been

Review For: Saints Row 2 (Sony Playstation 3, 2008)

You'd think RockStar and THQ traded places after playing this masterpiece. This is exactly what GTA IV should have been, an extension of San Andreas. Unlike GTA IV which removed everything from San Andreas, Saints Row 2 keeps it all, and yes, I mean ALL. Unlike in GTA IV, in Saints Row 2 you have planes, parachutes, stores, property purchasing, gangs, full character customization, a huge city, a huge selection of vehicles, tons of weapons (way more then the lousy 12 included in GTA IV), tons of things to explode, almost everything can be picked up, and far more. Of course, thanks to the Xbox 360, in order to include all these great features there had to be compromises. The graphics of this game are certainly no where near as good as GTA IV's, but the game is still amazing. As I've said in other reviews, when a game is developed for Xbox, the developers have to make a choice between gameplay and graphics, THQ chose right and picked gameplay, RockStar picked graphics. Although this game is way better then GTA IV, there are some things I still would have liked to see that aren't here, mainly the ability to do more damage to the vehicles. Also, there's no blood splatter in this game like in GTA, but thats about it. It's a GREAT game. Please, at least rent it, you will LOVE it so much more then GTA IV, you may never buy another GTA again.

The game is OK... but if your gonna spend your money Buy GTA4

No, I would not recommend this product.
Review For: Saints Row 2 (Sony Playstation 3, 2008)

When it comes to Grand Theft Auto clones these days, its hard for any other game besides GTA itself to really stand out as a decent game.

I played the original Saints Row and thought... this sucks its a rip off of GTA... I bought this and played it and found the only real difference that made this game stand out was the depth of customization for your character.

Right from the start of the game you get to build your character from his body structure to his skin type and facial development. I really enjoyed creating a character that would be totally "different" and my own fro the story line.

The story line is a shot in the dark, nothing really makes you want to pursue the main quests, no real drive.. I immediately went off track and started doing my own thing.

Driving around town and terrorizing the locals is always fun but gets a little dull after a while. The missions are very hum ho.. with the odd exception of some pretty crazy stuff you need to do. Mostly get somewhere in time to kill someone or steal something or protect someone.

All around its entertaining for the price I paid, can't imagine why some people paid full retail price on its release... if your gonna buy this game, make sure its under 20 bucks or you'll be disappointed.

If your looking for a game with real story and action... go by GTA4
