Movie synopsis
"The Rum Diary" is a 2011 movie based on the Hunter S. Thompson novel of the same name. The book and movie fit the drama category. The film was released to DVD as a single-disc set by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Johnny Depp enacts the role of the main character, with Aaron Eckhart, Michael Rispoli, Amber Heard, Richard Jenkins, and Giovanni Ribisi as costars. "The Rum Diary" follows Depp's character, Paul Kemp, as he travels to San Juan in Puerto Rico for a job. Once there, the corruption in the island town becomes apparent to Kemp, who seeks to expose it. As the drama unfolds, Kemp falls in love with another character. The plotline for the single-disc set follows Kemps movements on the island as he traverses the corruption. "The Rum Diary" is an AC-3 film set to NTSC standards. The movie is presented in widescreen in full color with Dolby surround sound and subtitles. The movie has English audio with English subtitles.

another great johnny depp movie

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

it may be 19 years since his last film, but bruce robinson hasn't lost his touch. in his adaptation of hunter s thompson's novel, he mixes broad comedy with attacks on corruption and press impotence issues as relevant today as they were in the 1950s puerto rico. johnny depp blend touches of his fear and loathing and pirates characters into drunken journalist paul kemp, resulting in a meandering journey of self-discovery, nazis, cockerels and impressive amounts of rum. a great movie to get and watch.

Johnny Depp once again tackles an off-beat quirky role. If even one half of this story is true, it explains much about why Hunter S. Thompson was so strange.

The film itself mirrors the main character's existence; wandering around in an alcohol induced fog, wanting to do the right thing, but perhaps just a bit too apathetic to get off of the couch.

In the final summation, were we entertained? Sure. Did we come away with any truth? NAAH. A good, but forgettable film.

Don't Bother, Find something else to watch worth while

Johnny Depp is a great actor, there's no doubt. The movie has a real raw touch to it film wise which I do like. BUT overall I kept wondering, "what is the Point"? It is funny at times but not what you think it will be. The commercials made it to look like something it is not. Kinda weird and off-beat. I think it could have been a lot better. NOT something I would watch again or recommend. Was a waste of time. Again, not due to the lack of acting but more so to the script and storyline. 1 hr 50 LONG minutes

This movie is a pretty good feature length film based on Thomas and his friends. The acting was good with Peter Fonda stealing the show in my opinion. Alec Baldwin did really well as well as Mara. It kept my son interested the first time he watched and still holds his interest every time after. Not bad considering he&apo​s;s 2.

I bought this because I'm a fan of Johnny Depp and Hunter S. Thompson. This semi-autobiographical story was incredibly funny!!! Definitely worth buying!!!
