Movie synopsis
Based on a true story, ROSEWOOD takes place in a predominantly black Florida town in 1923. A woman in the neighboring town of Sumner, beaten by a lover, falsely claims that a black man assaulted her, thereby providing an excuse for her redneck townspeople to head for Rosewood with rifles and nooses. Ultimately, her lie engenders an unbelievable tragedy that is redeemed only by the heroism of those who endured it.

Rosewood

as a native floridian and amateur African Diapora historian, this movie is imperative to my peoples history. this movie is a glimpse into the 600+ years of degredation, depression, and eploitation of black people in america. although this movie shows some historical inaccuracies it is still just as important to african history as the black wallstreet war of the 1930's and the chicago revolt/riots of the 1960's. although i am a gator fan, this movie is one fothe reasons i am not a fan of the city of gainesville which houses Univ. of Florida and The gators no less than 100 miles from rosewood and known for its racism. in fact the city that i hail from tallahassee is the duplicate of this town. this moive originates two quotes that can summarize the black mans struggle. "nigg*r is just another word for guilty" -aunt sarah and "its a war, we in the trenches" -Mr. Mann (ving rayhmes).

Review For: Rosewood (DVD, 1997)

10 Jan 2010; Sunday; I bought this Dvd for a friend. She helped me purchase a maytag washing machine (used). She loaned me the money to buy it second-hand & I repayed her back ASAP. I sent her this Dvd as a thank you & Xmass present. I feel every high school graduate should be drafted into the US Army or the US Air Force. The military system teaches young men & women tolerance for other peoples. In the service you have to work with other recruits & members from many different countries. This teaches you that people are the same regardless of their skin color or national origins. I thank the Good Lord for giving me 20 good years, (I m a Veteran of the 1991 Gulf War )towards my retirment & penison. You can see the slowly building bond of military solidarity between these two men ( John a Navy Veteran & Ving an Army Veteran) who have both been in combat. When Ving made the statement, {there is no color when the gas & motars rounds start coming in}, it hit a personal note. My Mums great uncle a US Army Veteran, came back from France 1918 or 1919 suffering from the effects of a mustard gas attack by the German Imperial Army.!!!!!! I want to thank E-Bay for giving the American Public & the World too, a great Internet store. I find many Bargain items & save alot of money. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I refuse to shop @ Walmart!!!!!!!! Everything (except food) I need I find on E-Bay. Thank you E-Bay for excellent $$$$$$$$$ low prices also!!!!!!!! Best/Wishes Charles.

Rosewood (DVD, 2007)

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Rosewood, the movie, is based (loosely) on a 1923 incident that took place in Florida. A predominantly black, somewhat prosperous farming community, is thrust into a race war when a white woman, in the neighboring town of Sumner, falsely claimed that a black man raped and beat her. She was considered to be a loose woman, and was actually assaulted by a white drifter that she had invited into her home.

Having provided an excuse for a racist mob of townspeople, a lynch party descended upon Rosewood resulting in the murders of many blacks in cold blood, and the burning of most of the town. Many who survived, only did so by taking refuge in the nearby swamps and forests. For more than 70 years Rosewood's history and destruction were kept a secret, never discussed by the survivors.

Not everyone gave in to either savagery or panic during that horrifying week. A strange and unexpected alliance between two men, one black and one white, brought about a daring rescue that carried dozens of terrified women and children out of the dark Florida swamps to safety.

Review For: Rosewood (DVD, 1997)

this movie is not for the faint at heart. it deals with hard truths in this society. it shows the double standard that faces people everyday in america. if you can't understand why some people think the way they do look at this movie with an open mind because if you don't you will be very upset. this movie makes you open your eyes and think about the truths in the world no matter how ugly it is. the story is a man had a wife that was a slut and she said that she was raped. the problem was it blame on an inocent man. the angry men in the town burn down one section of the town and force the resident to leave the town , after all that they had done to build it. one lie cause the death of many and cause a rift in the towns people. even through it was proven it was not that man , alot of people lost alot of life and property. the only redemning factor was that the people that were left became very close. i brought as a gift.
