the recent PBS special on "Roots" inspired me to get the series on E-Bay and watch it again for the first time since it originally aired on TV over 30 yrs ago... this time with my 14 yr old daughter. it's still an extremely powerful mini-series although somewhat tainted by the realization that it can no longer be considered to be an historical, semi-autobiographical true account of Alex Halley's family tree since he was found guilty of plagiarism and was required to pay restitution. that being said, it still has the power to move ANY man (black or white) to tears of joy and tears of pain and regret. if you've never experienced "Roots", you are surely missing out!
Classic TV mini-series was milestone in race relations and family history. I remember beig captivated by each episode.
I watched this mini-series when it was aired on television and could not wait until the next episode aired, it was truely an eye opening experience and I now consider it a part of my education.
I was born in the 50's and I can tell you that it was quite a different world at that time, unfortunately at the time I think most people thought that it was just the way things should be until the 60's when it became time for change, the U.S. was in a war that we really didn't understand and there was unrest in the streets.
Anyone who wondered about the plight of people of color should watch this film to fully understand and adjust their way of thinking, it's all about being Human...
i would reconmend this movie to anyone who has childern or not.this movie would be a good history lesson for anyone who whats to know about thier roots or anstor. very good movie for black history month. you should really invest in it
I've always wanted to see this without commercials & in it's entirety since it was first on television years ago.I had missed a couple of episodes then. Great watching!!! A time of not so great American history. A story that needed to be told even if Alex Haley made a lot of it up. Still great viewing.
