Movie synopsis
Kristen Bell (HEROES, VERONICA MARS) stars in this comedy as a young woman with an enviable problem: she has multiple men after her heart! She takes a trip to Italy to escape New York City, and there she makes the questionable decision to take coins from a fountain of love. Soon, a number of men (played by Danny DeVito, Jon Heder, Dax Shepard, and Will Arnett) are a-wooing, and she doesn't know what to do. Making things even tougher is the presence of a journalist (Josh Duhamel), who seems to display a real affection for her.

A Romantic Comedy with a twist

Kristen Bell (Heroes) is Beth Harper, a successful art curator at the Guggenheim, only problem is she has been alone since she broke up with her boy friend a year earlier. When her younger sister (Alexis Dziena) announces she is getting married in two days in Rome she heads off to be her maid of honor. While in Rome she meets Nick Beamon (Josh Duhamel), the best man. After the reception Beth has a bit too much to drink and picks up four coins from a wishing well.
When she gets home she finds that she is suddenly very popular, especially with four men played by Danny DeVito, Jon Heder, Will Arnett and Dax Shepard. These were the men who tossed in the four coins she picked up from the fountain.

From there the movie goes on to see Beth being chased all over New York by these love struck men, and she is also falling for Nick who happens to live in New York as well.

The movie is fun to watch and at times funny but it does get a bit annoying to have the four strangers who are chasing beth getting in the way of the scenes she is in.

I would suggest renting this movie instead of buying it.

OK confession time

I saw this movie in the theater and hated it, and I wrote a few scathing internet reviews.
Seeing it on Blu-Ray in the comfort in my own home was a way different experience. In the theater I was expecting some romantic masterpiece, and wasn't comfortable with the four clownish suitors . While "When In Rome" has it's scarce truly romantic moments and even fewer genuinely funny moments, it has a heart and sincerity. The movie is not plodding nor boring, but it is corny and syrupy, and would have been better without the four boyfriend-stalkers and better with just Josh and Kristen Bell, but there are times when you say a happy ending justifies a corny plot. When In Rome

Review For: When in Rome (DVD, 2010)

I purchased the dvd When In Rome about a month ago and have watched it like a million times. I have been wanting this movie since I saw the previews on tv. This movie is so funny. What makes this movie so funny is all of the main character suitors. My favorite is the suppose-to-be male model. Josh Duhamel is so funny in this movie as well. I think he does comedy really well. Kristen Bell just looks like a funny girl. Her character is really fun. There isn't too much I didn't like about this movie. This movie is really a tear jerker and what I mean about that is that you will laugh so hard til you cry. Alot of movies claim to be "laugh out loud" and really isn't but When In Rome is the real deal!

Review For: When in Rome (DVD, 2010)

This is a really enjoyable and funny movie. A twenty something-year-old, successful, art gallery curator, Beth (Kristen Bell), is too involved with her job to be involved with anyone else. Gradually accepting that love is just a fairy tail and that romance is something other people experience, she moves on with her life. Suddenly she finds out that her younger sister is engaged and marrying, in Rome, she goes to attend the wedding. Here she meets Nicholas Beamon (Josh Duhamel) and they are seriously attracted to one another. But when Beth sees Nicholas kissing another girl, she is jealous and gets drunk. She visits a local fountain that locals call "enchanted" and she removes several coins from the water, a poker chip, a penny, a rare coin, a Euro, and a trick quarter. She has no idea that according to legend, if you take an object from the fountain, that person will fall in love with you!

Back in New York, Beth discovers that the legend is true when all of a sudden, she has these five guys chasing her everywhere, all madly infatuated with her! They range from a short sausage factory tycoon, Al (Danny DeVito), a street illusionist Lance (Jon Heder), a doting painter Antonio (Will Arnett), a male model Gale (Dax Shepard), and Nick who tossed-in the poker chip. She is falling in love with Nick, but figures that his interest is merely the result of the spell. Now she must figure out how to return these objects to the fountain and break the spell.

Joan (Beth's sister), calls Beth and tells her that the only way to break the spell is to return the coins to their owners. Beth's secretary, Stacy (Kate Micurri), who is highly concerned about Beth's miserable love life—overhears the conversation and steals the coins, believing that Beth would lead a better life with people loving her, regardless of the spell.

When all of her suitors show up together in New York, Beth has to explain what has happened and that she plans to return the coins to them. After explaining what is going on to Stacey, she returns the coins. Beth gives them back, and they all agree to help her with Nick, with whom she is in love. At a big gala that her gallery is hosting in NYC, Nick shows up and Beth thanks him for showing her that love can still come to her. He admits that he is in love with her despite the chip. In a funny ending, they are married in Rome.
