It the hard-disk recorder to have in a studio set quick reliable and powerful the CD option is a must some say it make the unit louder but importing exporting .Wav file is a breeze i think the internal CD is much better than a external cd unit its always ready to go and archiving a project is fast. i have recorded full lp with the unit also with others here is a artist i have done some recent work with http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/lo-raine-single/id419170864 The monitor with the 2480 tops the others i find myself creating rather than fighting the recorder to do things it should. it does to much to list here, and i am still new at a lot of it, but combine with a software studio it is a plus, also get the VS-FX worth the dollars it will make editing vocal and mastering easier
roland has been my brand name for many years for its quality & durability plus professional sound, simply the best workstation that you can get.
I've used this board for 11+ years to record in studio, record live, and run live sound - there is simply nothing else on the market that does what this unit does, and the quality of your end product is as good as any DWS out there. I just bought my 3rd VS 2480 (I still use them all - in different places) my only complaint is that Roland stopped making them, so upgrades are not as available as I'd like.
When you're ready to get serious about digital recording on a budget, than this professional studio in a box is worth a shot. This was Rolands flagship model before they stoped making them. For most of us it was financially out of reach just a few years ago.
I highly recommend downloading the owner's manual to a 4gig
flash drive and then have it printed out for you at the UPS store. The DVD tutorials are also a major plus for expediting
the learning curve.
I'm a Blues Rocker and I like to record live so the ability of this unit to record 16 tracks simultaneously and with automated fader positions and parameters that can be memorized
and recalled for any project is simply ice creme on the cake
for me.
The 2480 has been the best sounding home recording workstation for many years. One of the reasons that the 2480 is so much better than other workstations is the fact that very high quality inputs were used in the construction. After recording on many other home workstations, I have to say the 2480 is the best by far. I use it to make rap music, and will rarely use all 24 tracks. One limiting feature that is important to note, is that the 2480 is expensive to upgrade the effects, and out of the box, only 2 tracks can have LIVE effects at the same time, when using different effects. You could save files to disk and edit on protools(..and a few other programs), to get more effect possibilities without spending too much.
