I've had my Rocketfish tripod for about 7 months and use it for mostly nature shots at various different types of locations from the forest to the beach. The unit is on the heavy side, but I just take that to mean it is strongly built. The use of the head is great. I was able to pan vertically and horizontally with no problems. I have read the reviews where others have lost pieces such as the rubber feet, but I have not had that problem. I am overly careful with this product because I know that replacement parts are not available anymore from the company and I don't want to have to stop using it because I lost or broke something. Overall, I think this was a great buy to help support my hobby and I would recommend it to others, with the understanding that it is discontinued from the company and parts are not available.
Unfortunately this tripod has been discontinued - luckily I found it on eBay. I saw a last floor model at Best Buy and was amazed by the fluid head motion and sturdy build. This one was missing a part so I looked online and found a new tripod on eBay. I use a heavy DSLR for HD video and get excellent results with fluid head panning. For the price you absolutely can't find anything with the same quality and functionality.
I am very happy with the Rocketfish RF-TRP65C. I have had many other tripods and in my book this is one of the best for it's price. very steady, the carbon fiber so it does not rust, smooth movement on air head. They could of made it so the boots on the feet would not come off so easy. Other them that, very happy with Rocketfish RF-TRP65C tripod.
One of the legs broke for no apparent reason. Searching on eBay, I find another one for sale that was 'lightly used', and also had a broken leg. This is a discontinued item and Rocketfish no longer carries the parts. Caveat emptor. It is sturdy, but also unexpectedly heavy and awkward to carry around, so I wind up taking it with me far less than my old cheapo tripod. A tripod that isn't with you when you need it is useless.
I've used many tripods over the years. This is by far the very best! It supports heavy SLR cameras with big lenses! Most tripods out there say they are professional ones but yet only support 3-4 pounds. This on is more like 17 lbs it supports! That is more like it! I would highly recommend this to anyone. It is very sturdy and very easy to use. Definite buy!
