Movie synopsis
THE ESCAPIST director Rupert Wyatt takes the helm for this PLANET OF THE APES prequel centering on genetically engineered chimp Caesar (Andy Serkis), who was created in a San Francisco lab by an ambitious scientist (James Franco), and who uses his powerful intellect to lead an ape uprising against all of humankind., This two-disc set contains Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a sci-fi movie by 20th Century Fox. It is an addition to the existing Planet of the Apes sci-fi series. The movie revolves around a chimpanzee (Andy Serkis) with superhuman intelligence and a scientist (James Franco). At the beginning of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the scientist finds a cure for Alzheimer’s disease that works for chimps. As a side effect, however, the baby chimp of the tested chimp turns out to have superhuman intelligence. The scientist raises this baby as if it were his own, but soon after reaching maturity, the chimp is forcibly removed to an ape sanctuary. In order to seek justice, the chimp creates an army of intelligent chimpanzees with the help of the same drug, and tries to battle the humans to gain back his rightful place. The battle decides the fate of the entire planet. The two-disc set, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, is 105 minutes long and is subtitled in English and Spanish for viewer convenience.

Do not mess with the ape!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

A perfect prequel for one of the most ideallic science fiction movies. It tries to send some messages through out the movie, just like the original.
Caesar, the ape with the increased intellingence, gave me some spooks a couple of times.
The leading actor gave a adequate performance, to my surprise.
Recommended to all the fans of the franchise and to sci.fi. lovers!

Review For: Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Blu-ray/DVD, 2011, 2-Disc Set, Includes Digital Copy)

I have to be perfectly honest and upfront before I review this movie. I know that I am going to be slammed about this, but I am not a fan of the original movies. I loved the concept, but even as a kid I could see the faults in the way the movies were originally presented.

With the advances in technology since the originals were released, we are finally at a time and place where the true potential of great stories like The Planet of the Apes can be unleashed.

A good friend of mine has Alzheimer's and seeing the way in which the apes evolved was both uplifting and awe-inspiring.

The most amusing thing I noticed (and this may be purely co-incidental) was the fact that Congress passed a law restricting the practice of testing drugs on chimpanzees around the time this movie was released. Makes you wonder if they know something we don't or if they are all so incredibly stupid that they all saw the movie and think it is real.

The Best Yet!!!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I bought this DVD because I saw it in the movies and it was awesome. This DVD is hands down, the best movie of 2011. Theres nothing I really disliked about this DVD. it could have had a little more action in it though from the humans vs apes. A lot of this movie has the same things as the first planet of the apes but just better and more realistic. The first planet of the apes had them talking all along the whole movie. This movie, made it more realistic and Ceaser talked only three times and the words were short and sweet. The creator of this one deserves an award!!!!!

Very good movie. Lots of action

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Apes are at it again. Very good movie, and keep you guessing what is next? Action movie. Starts very slow, and I wonder who the animals are at time. Men or the Apes. It end with a opening for the next Ape movie. I have a collection of them all, and this is one of the better ones.

Poignant and realistic action film.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Excellent film. Raises some interesting ethical questions. Should scientists try to cure disease or are some things [death and Alzheimer's] simply inevitable? The main character, a scientist, wants to help people with Alzheimer's but winds up making things worse. Cesar, the genetically-enhanced intelligent chimp, rebels against the brutal way humans treat apes; he leads an uprising, but by "playing God" with the apes, is Cesar repeating the mistakes of his human "father"? Both have good intentions, but the result is still death and destruction. Since the original films, special effects have improved to where these apes look real, not like people wearing costumes. The result is more serious and less satirical, though there are moments of humor, including a line borrowed from the original: "Get your stinking paw off me, you damn dirty ape!"
