The rise and fall of the Memphis sound. Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Issac Hayes, Booker T and the MG's... So many hits and hit makers came from the Stax record label in a terrible time in US history. I really miss the real, unpolished sound of this label. The true meaning of Soul...

Review For: Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story (DVD, 2007)
This dvd outlines the wonderful story about the other R&B label (aka Motown)that was major contributor to todays popular music. The history of the Stax/Volt label is colorful, sad, inspiring, and inciteful.
I missed seeing a few of the casat of artist in the film (e.g., Albert King, Eddie Floyd, etc.) but nonetheless the story line was great.
I loved the dvd and recommend the everyone that likes r&b, soul, or popular music check it out.

This is a great DVD & is highly recommended if you like the late 60's music of Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, etc. Nothing to dislike. I bought it because I missed it on PBS.

Review For: Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story (DVD, 2007)
This movie gives an in depth look at the history of Stax Records and even a bit of the racial climate of the time. Excellent music and great stories that shaped the company that produced a product that replaced cotton as Memphis' number one import. Worth every penny.

Review For: Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story (DVD, 2007)
The documentary was average and interesting although I expected it to be more about the family who started the record company instead of the performers. The Stax Records Story was about just that about the Stax records.
Different but interesting.
