| Picking up immediately where Resistance: Fall of Man concluded, Resistance 2 follows Nathan Hale as he finds himself once more in a world transformed by war and invasion. Undaunted by their defeat in London, the Chimera have continued to advance and are now poised to attack the United States. Entire cities have been leveled and communities annihilated. In this war where the odds are so heavily stacked against the human race, few are left who are willing and able to fight. Fortunately, Hale is not alone. A group of super soldiers known as the Sentinels will fight alongside Hale as they collectively attempt to thwart the inevitable.

The gameplay is, of course, a lot of fun but they removed a couple aspects that I really liked in the first game and that made the gameplay different.
First they removed the ability to have all guns at one time. In Resistance 2 you are only allowed two guns at a time and you can switch them out as you find them. I realize this is more "realistic" but I enjoyed the game far more when I wasnt so limited in my choice of weapons at any one time. I loved being able to decide how exactly I wanted to kill the enemy.
The second aspect that was removed is the health bar aspect. In the first game the player had a health bar divided into 4 sections. If you were injured, you would only regenerate up to the next section. Resistance two has decided to move over to the Call of Duty health system in that the more you are injured the louder you hear a heart beat and the screen blurs some. If you hide for a minute you calm down and are back to full health. This removes the need for health packs and planning around a limited level of health.
These two changes take some of the character out of the game, in my opinion. I enjoyed the different strategies involved with the health system in the first game as well as the versatility of being able to choose from all the weapons at any time. Another change is the way the story is told. No longer do you get black and white screens with a british woman voiceover, in Resistance 2 you get bits and pieces from the small amount of Intel you collect around the levels and the rest is just radio conversations. In addition the technology seems like it has become very advanced for the early 1950s. Maybe they took it all from the Chimera but the equipment and clothes the humans wear seem very 21st century to me.
Despite these changes, the game is still a lot of fun and the graphics are beautiful. I definitely recommend the game but dont expect as much uniquiness compared to other games in the same genre.
I've played the first one so I already knew the story line. If you haven't, it's ok because you won't be too lost in this one.
The Campaign mode is excellent! The story line and plot blend very well with the gameplay and it keeps you wanting to play more because you want to find out what happens. However, there is such a good use of the check points that if you only have a little bit of time to play, it would be no problem.
The Cooperative mode is very fun as well. Although it does take quite some time to level up your character, it is well worth it. The three classes are all fun and equally useful while playing. It only gets more fun as you progress through the game.
The Competitive mode is the bread and butter. The way everything is put together is near flawless. The maps are fun, and sometimes irritating, but that's what makes it so good. The many different kinds of modes are all fun except for Deathmatch, because the spawn killing is horrible. My favorite, and probably the most fun, is Skirmish because it gives you objectives to complete while still mass killing the enemy. The only overall flaw with Competitive mode is the game searching system. Sometimes you will look for a large game, expecting the big 60 person matches, and you only get like 20 person match. I've even read that some people will get into 10 person matches when searching for large games. I've also read the opposite where people search for small games and get into 20 or 40 person matches. It may get a little frustrating, but it doesn't deter from the gameplay at all.
Overall, Resistance 2 is one of the best PS3 games out there, and by far one of the best FPS games on next-gen consoles. Unlike many other sequels, it isn't just a clone with a different storyline, it completely revamps the game to make it a superior game overall.
It was very obvious from day 1 Sony and Insomniac focus was on PSN/multi-player. We heard a lot about it. Now the game is out, every bit that was promised is delivered. My most favorite parts in the game are the co-op missions. It is so much fun to play with buddies split-screen, the game levels are randomly generated. The experience is never the same any time you play back the levels.
Co-op missions are class based. Dont try to run around and get killed. You need to be organized and push inch by inch. Every one has a role to play and all of them are fun. You can play with upto 8 people online. The game completely suits itself for the number of people playing at a time. I like it when there is a minimum of 4 people, with a good medic. It is so satisfying and epic.
They have also pushed the competitive bar to 60 players. It gets really crazy at the last min when every one converges to the center. It has a similar feel to UT3 warfare mode. If you are tired of the vanilla kill count based games, R2 is the decisive answer.
We are going to be talking about R2 for a long long time to come. This has set the bar for multi-player. We are going to see a lot copy cats too. The engine has been revamped a lot from R1. The game never slows down with all the explosions and 60 people running around. It is a amazing technological achievement. Even PC games couldn't do what R2 has done on a console. Competitive levels are much more methodical than run and gun. It takes a few shots before the person dies. So you can always move away and find a better flanking position.
Competitive multiplayer levels are very well balanced. It is not winner takes all. If you play well you become a bigger bulls eye in the map. So every one has a chance. It also increases the challenge for higher skill palyers. It is a win-win. Very well thought out maps. Take your time and play slowly. It is a very enjoyable game. If you are looking for a simple bunny hop and shoot multi-player; you are in for disappointment.
The game is slightly different from R1. No more weapons wheel. You can just carry two weapons at a time. You also get a Uncharted style fully recovering health. Some of old weapons are tweaked to make it more interesting to use. Art direction also has changed. Now visuals have a pop. Forest is no more the post apocalyptic gray burnt one.. it is a green lush forest. Every thing feels fresh and natural.
Resistance 2 is in direct competition with LBP for its massiveness. I don't think there is any other games that packs so much content in a single disk. I have a strong feeling Insomniac filled up the entire Blu-ray disc.
Single player mode much more narrated. The game walks you through a very cinematic presentation. The games takes control of the camera to several times to show all the glorious backgrounds and set pieces. Boss battles are huge. Some of the levels are just one single big boss battle. You are just circling around slowly taking the health of the big behemoths.
So far I have killed more than 1000 enemies in single player. The game sincerely makes you feel helpless. AI is stunningly smart. My winning formula is survey, find a safe position, move & fortify, then survey again. Run and gun doesn't seem to work. I was able to be finish R1 without thinking this much.
Audio in this game is amazing. This time it feels lot more like Hollywood. Weapons pack a punch. If you have a 7.1, close all the doors and crank up the volume. You will be in the edge of the c
I purchased this game because I had just recently purchased a PS3 and had seen adevertisements for "Resistance: Fall of Man". I purchased both and recieved this one first, This games blows my expectations out of the water. The controls are perfect especially for having so many primary, secondary and alternate weapon abilities. Graphics are seemless with few to no glitching ( rare concidering the massive size and your weapon range ). A good rule of thumb is if you can see it you can shoot it. And you can see enemies as far off as your line of sight. The story will capture your imagination and is a great stand alone release. I haven't played the original but I am now interested in seeing how it all began. If you like shooters like Halo, Call of Duty, Gears of War, Killzone and Dark Sector ( Weapon set up is a lot like Gears and Turok )this is a very good title to own.
I bought this game some time ago because I had just finished the first game Resistance, which by the way is one of the best games I´ve played so far. I hoped resistance two was better or at least the same quality. At first I hated it because it took me some time to learn how to play cooperative because I played the first one with my brother. This format is a bit different, but once you learn to use it it is simply awsome. The best part I consider is that you have to work yourself up into a complete soldier by gaining experience and weapons through your kills and objective completion. This is a very good idea and keeps the player wanting more. The down side of this is that you have to repeat the fisrt level (which is quite large by the way) like 6 times before you have the option of advancing to the second level. This after some time gets boring because you learn by the fifth game where and when enemies will attack and it looses the element of surprise....which however comes back as soon as you make enough merits to go to the second level.
In the end I dont regret it at all. I think it has great graphics and is tough so it makes you work hard to obtain your goals.
If you have the chance buy it. It is addictive and it grows on you every time you play it!
