I wasn't too sure about this film at the beginning, but as it picked up I found it rather enjoyable..Chow Yun Fat plays an assassin forced by his employer to take out his enemies or watch his family die..when his latest hit becomes too much for him to take he asks a Friend to take his Mother and Sister to safety as he attempts to go home to China he stops in and asks a document forger played by Mira Sorvino to do a job for him, but his enemies are close behind..as the desperate prey race to save the next victim they find alot of goodness in each other..what happens next is anyones guess action packed filled to the hilt with bullets and martial arts this movie is sure to please any kung fu fan out there!! I give this movie 5 out of 5 bars
I bought this one after seeing a preview. No regrets, that's for sure. If you like action like I do, well there it is. Chow Yun Fat might not be the best actor, but he does the job and he does it good. As for Mira Sorvino, you will just love her. She is gooooood!!!
LA cop, Stan Zedkov (Michael Rooker), kills Triad lieutenant Peter Wei (Yau-Gene Chan) during a marine drug bust. His Father is the drug lord and seeks revenge against Zedkov. Only thing is, he wants Zedkov's seven-year-old son killed before his eyes. John Lee is the assassin assigned the job. He owes the drug lord a debt and has killed twice before. He is told that this killing will finally pay off the debt, but has serious problems with killing the child. He also realizes that if he doesn't do it, his own family will be killed, so he must move quickly to secure his family. He returns to China and enlists the help of an old friend, Alan Chan, a buddhist monk, to move and secure his family. The drug lord is infuriated by his disobedience, and has his men looking for John Lee and his family. He also hires a group of replacement killers to go after Zedkov's son.
Enlisting the help of a skilled forger, Meg Coburn (Mira Sorvino), Lee tries to obtain a new passport. When she finds out that the Triad is involved, she wants out, but Lee forces her to complete the job. Trying to stay ahead of the Triad, Lee's family is moved to Canton, but his friend Alan has been captured and tortured. He lied to the Triad and told them Lee's family went to Shanghai. With just hours left, Alan gives Lee the passport before dying.
In and effort to stop the killing of Zedkov's son Lee forces one of the drug lord's men to reveal the plan, and goes after them. In the ensuing gun battle, Lee kills the drug lord. This doesn't end the threat from the Triad, but gives time for all to disappear and protect themselves. Good movie, but typically too much action.
I love Chow Yun Fat movies, he is one of my favorite Asian actors. This movie is ok but does not do him justice. But for being his first U.S. movie it's pretty good.
It was a great because it was the special edition, which had more features than the other release. It hit me up in french subtitle when I started it. I just went into language/subtitles to changed that and it worked fine.
