Product Information
The second boxing game on Nintendo 64 takes a lighthearted, arcade-style approach to the sport. The 17 pugilists, ranging from a 358-pound sumo wrestler to a 500-year-old demon from another dimension, are rendered in an intentionally exaggerated style to complement their unorthodox approach to fighting. Arcade Mode is a no-holds-barred slugfest where the object is to pummel your opponent (computer or human) as quickly as possible without worrying about "little" things such as rules. Championship Mode is structured differently, as the object is to choose one of three boxers, train using specific equipment, and rise through the bronze, silver, and gold classes. Players can also have their own gym to train in, but the available equipment will depend on their performances inside the ring.

While the default view is from a third-person perspective, five additional camera angles offer various ringside looks and even a first-person view. Two horizontal meters at the top of the screen display each fighter's condition. The first meter, which changes from green to red as your boxer receives damage, represents health. The second meter, which is solid blue in color, represents stamina. Strong punches take away portions of the stamina meter, which means subsequent punches will be weaker until the meter returns to full strength. Players can also spell out the word "RUMBLE" by inflicting punishing blows on their opponent. Each strong punch earns players one letter, and once the entire word is spelled out, they'll be able to perform a flurry of devastating hits unique to each boxer.

Redundant and not nearly as great as I remembered it.

    ...once the nostalgia wore off...

I finished beating the game (in one relatively SHORT sitting) and proceeded to shelf this game... haven't touched it since. In it's heyday (and especially on the Dreamcast system with better graphics, response and control setup) this game was epic AWESOME... now... it is "meh".

I don't recommend buying this ANYWHERE for more than a few bucks as you might just get tired of it ALLLLLLLL too soon.

As for me... when I get tired of my N64 and my awesome old school games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Smash Bros., I will bundle this title up with the others and sell everything in a set here on Ebay. Until then. I doubt I'll play R2R again.

Arcade-style boxing game, fun to pick up, not much else

The Arcade-style mode of R2R is quick to pick up, figure out, and then beat the snot out of opposing characters. The learning curve is quick, but unfortunately it doesn't transfer to the career mode. I've defeated the arcade mode a couple of times, but any time I start the career mode, my boxer quickly gets wasted.

Of course, I could put some time and effort into playing the game to improve my skills, but this isn't a Mario title; you're not going to want to spend hours and hours trying to defeat it.

    I Love This Game

This game is real fun I love the arcade style of the game.. it reminds me of "NFL Blitz" as far as invincible, I especially like the boxer who's 100 and something years old with his old Jack Jhonson style of boxing. My only problem with this game is the fact that the game starts out very glitchy
with the "LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE" intro theme song breaking up... some times you have to pull the cartridge out of the console and resart the game, but I know it has nothing to do with N64 because I had it on Dreamcast too and it did the same thing, who knows maybe the game was rushed out a little to early because of the Dreamcast release date 9/9/99 the N64 version is just a duplicate of the Dreamcast version (it just isn't as clear)... other then that this game is A+ A+ A+ !!!!!!!!

    awsome

I use to have this game about 6 or 7 years ago until my neice decided to wash it in the washer and it got ruined and I had trouble replacing it until I came across it on ebay and the price was perfect so I jumped at the chance and bought it thanks again for this game and the unbeatable price....
