Since there is not even a brief synopsis of the film "Quills," on eBay, where both the VHS & DVDs are being auctioned & sold, I will offer a brief one here & try to create & submit an original review later.

In the film, the notoriously inflammatory sadomasochist, the Marquis de Sade, claims that 'in order to know virtue a person has to 1st comprehend vice'. In Philip Kaufman's "Quills," his focus is on the Marquis de Sade after his salacious sexual writing has transcended artistic freedom in 18th & 19th centuries, in France & England. "Quills," explores in detail events that led from the Marquis as a social aristocrat to an amoral scoundrel spending his life in prison for roughly 30 years. He's determined to write anyway so he uses his own excrement & blood instead of ink on cell walls, bits of clothing & his own skin. He uses female prison staff to circulate his writings by seducing them.
