Great Actors in this but....Stone steals the show, she is tough and beautiful at the same time, whoever remarked Sharon Stone can't act, is dead wrong!!
This is a superb modern version of a western. The acting is very good and believable.
Cast includes Gene Hackman, Russel Crow, Sharon Stone, Leonardo DiCaprio and Gary Sinise.
Dislikes?? None from myself, AWESOME MOVIE! Wish all movies were like this one! A Good Movie is few and far between these days. Buy it or rent it if you can find it somewhere!! As for myself still have the VHS Copy, Says it all...
Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe and Leonardo DiCaprio
star in Sam Raimi's 1995 western. A female gunslinger enters a
quick-draw contest to get revenge on a sadistic mayor. Sharon
is great in this and Gene is wonderful as usual as the villain.
This dvd has decent picture and sound, but only a trailer. Get
this terrific western.
Gene Hackman plays the evil John Herod who not only runs this Western town but also owns it. Everyone plays by his rules or they die.
A young Russell Crowe plays a now preacher who used to run with Herod's gang of bandits.
Sharon Stone plays "The Lady" who rides into town seeking revenge for the death of her father, which happened when she was a child.
Herod starts up a gun tournament. You get to move on if you live......
This is an excellent modern day version of a western. The acting is all very good and very believable.
All star cast includes Gene Hackman, Russle Crow, Sharon Stone, Leonardo DiCaprio and Gary Sinise.
A must have for your western DVD collection.
Sharon Stone plays a great part in this one! Actually so does Russel Crow, Gene Hackman, Leonardo DiCaprio... need I say more? Ok, so I have to say more. This is the story of a young woman (Stone) who grew up in the Wild West and was traumatized when, as a little girl, her father was killed. Stone spends her adult years (those that we know about) as a gun-slinging rebel, searching out the man (Hackman) she holds responsible for her father's death. Stone finds Hackman in a powerful position, running a gunfighter contest and takes the opportunity to exact her revenge.
An interesting storyline unfolds, interwining the lives of the four main characters in a complex way. Many surprises arise throughout this movie, and it is packed full of typical old-west action. Stone, of course, sleeps with one of her competitors; however, props to the director for being tasteful and not showing typical Stone sex scenes.
This movie is a favorite of mine. Q&D offers a refreshing perspective on the classic gunslinger movies with an original script and top-notch acting, but still gives enough action to placate the die-hard gunslinger fans.
GUYS: this is the ONLY gunslinger movie you are OK to make your girlfriends watch, you will BOTH enjoy this one!
Ellen, an unknown female gunslinger rides into a small, dingy and depressing prairie town with a secret as to her reason for showing up. Shortly after her arrival, a local preacher, Cort, is thrown through the saloon doors while townfolk are signing up for a gun competition. The pot is a huge sum of money and the only rule: that you follow the rules of the man that set up the contest, Herod. Herod is also the owner, leader, and "ruler" of the town. Seems he's arranged this little gun-show-off so that the preacher, who use to be an outlaw and rode with Herod will have to fight again. Cort refuses to ever use a gun to kill again and Herod, acknowledging Cort as one of the best, is determined to alter this line of thinking, even if it gets someone killed. This movie uses lot's of ingredients used in classic westerns. It does it in a fun way but it doesn't spoof the classic westerns in any way and it never becomes humorous or a parody that makes fun of the genre. This movie is filled with some unusual but great Sam Raimi like cinematography and tricks. Enjoy and pay attention to the story. It is just entertainment.
