Movie synopsis
The crimes aren't what make this mystery-driven series so much fun. Instead, it's the chemistry between leads James Roday (DUKES OF HAZZARD) and Dul´┐Ż Hill (THE WEST WING) that has PSYCH following in the footsteps of series such as MONK and MAGNUM, P.I. With a family of cops, Shawn Spencer (Roday) has honed his observational skills to an impressive degree. But rather than join the police force and make his father (Corbin Bernsen, L.A. LAW) proud, Shawn bounces from job to job, working as everything from a foot model to a Wienermobile driver. But he can't keep his powers of deduction hidden, and he calls the police with tips for their cases. When his knowledge arouses suspicion, Shawn does the logical thing: tells everyone he's a psychic and opens a psychic detective agency. Aided by his best friend and polar opposite, Gus (Hill), Shawn solves cases with the Santa Barbara Police Department. The detective duo matches wits with the doubtful police, hardened criminals, and one another with hilarious results. This collection presents the quirky dramedy's second season.

Psyched about The Complete 2nd Season DVD

Review For: Psych - The Complete Second Season (DVD, 2008, 4-Disc Set)

This show is funny with a great cast. Along with the MONK series, Psych acts as the "tag-team" comedy/mystery partner for the aforementioned series.

The set-up for the show is that Shawn Spencer -played by James Roday- (son of a hard-nosed, policeman father) has developed very good observational habits. These observational habits have allowed him to solve many crimes by simply seeing the news report and interviews on TV. Burton Guster or known on the show as "Gus" -played by Dule Hill- (Shawn's friend since childhood) is the straight-man and carries the traditional information and knowledge that Shawn lacks. The interaction between Shawn and Gus provides the main source of laughs, as they deal with the situations that they are confronted with each episode.

Shawn's father -Henry Spencer- is played by Corbin Bernsen. He nails the part of the straight-arrow, super-intense, former-cop father. The local police that are forced to work along-side Shawn and Gus are Carlton Lassiter and Juliet O'Hara -played by Timothy Omundson and Maggie Lawson respectively. Lassiter -generally speaking- hates that Shawn and Gus are allowed to work with the police department. Juliet is easy on the eyes and you don't need Shawn's observational skills to see that he has more than a casual interest in her. Karen Vick -played by Kirsten Nelson- is the police chief in charge of assigning cases to our detective duo.

My personal favorites -during the second season- are "Sixty Five Million Years Off" and "Shawn (and Gus) Of The Dead."

Buy this DVD package, you will laugh-out-loud during every episode. We have already gotten several of our friends hooked on the show.

Psych Season 2

Review For: Psych - The Complete Second Season (DVD, 2008, 4-Disc Set)

This is a great show that airs in the States on the USA network. Its an hour long comedy that follows a fake psychic as he solves crimes with his best friend. Stars James Roday, Dule Hill, Tim Omundson, Corbin Bernsen, and Maggie Lawson. This season has many guest stars and this DVD package is packed full of tons of extras. Be sure to watch the audio commentaries for fun behind the scenes information. The packaging is also unique. It opens like a book and the outer shell is harder than the cardboard of most DVD tv box sets.

I Know you Know that Psych is awesome!

Review For: Psych - The Complete Second Season (DVD, 2008, 4-Disc Set)

Psych Season 2. Best described as a deliscious follow up of the first.

Season 2 has Shawn and Gus continuing to solve off the wall mysteries with off the wall methods. Either working with the stellar officers of the SBPD or using his father to infiltrate a retirement home, this show remains stronger than ever.

This DVD set is much better than the first. It features a simpler layout of the 16 episodes onto 4 discs, not to mention a plethora of bonus features. Some the tantalizing tidbits include; deleted scenes, audio commentaries, Podcast commentaries, gag reels, Psychouts, The Adventures of little Shawn and Gus, and lastly two interactive features, the Name Game and Where's the Pineapple? Yes, it certainly is a lot of special features.

I can strongly recommend that you should purchase this DVD collection as it is the perfect follow up to the first. It features everything you could want and more. It could only be better if it came pineapple!

Seriously, don't be a gooey chocolate chip cookie. Buy Psych Season 2!

Psych - The Complete Second Season

Review For: Psych - The Complete Second Season (DVD, 2008, 4-Disc Set)

I see there are poor and below average reviews of this set, and I can't understand why. Yes there are some episodes that were mildly disappointing, but for the most part these shows are hilarious. The dialog is snappy, the acting can be campy, but the interplay of the main characters, Shawn and Gus are what makes the show what it is. The interspersed, quick, and often so off-beat 80's references (both verbal and visual)make this series a treasure...and honestly, seeing how they fit the pineapple reference in every week makes me want to watch, as do seeing what silliness Shawn and Gus can get themselves into and out of each week. All the supporting characters have their moments of fun during the "seriousness" as well.

This isn't Shakespeare, folks, and isn't meant to be. It is entertainment. When I watch Psych, I am hoping to have some moments of true laughter, which I do in many ways. Considering what else is out there to watch, I think this is worth an hour to have a little fun for a change.

What the Mentalist ripped off, but actually good

Review For: Psych - The Complete Second Season (DVD, 2008, 4-Disc Set)

I've been watching Psych since it came out and I remember going crazy with anticipation when I first saw a preview. Watching special features (even the "Psych-outs" during the credits) show why this show works so well; The cast has great chemistry. Everyone seems to be having fun and James Roday, Dule Hill et al. ad-lib just as much as they read off the script. Pretty much a great show that can balance gut-busting hilarity with sincere heartfelt drama and everything in between. If you enjoy good, (mostly) non-continuity television, watch this show. The new season started recently, it's on Friday nights at 10 on USA.
