Personally, I love Anne Hathaway! I love her! She's my dream girl! And in this flick she's delightful, funny, clumsy, smart, clever, sweet, real, superb!
It's a very nice plot also, very original idea, the princess hidden in San Francisco downtown.
Julie Andrews is absolutely amazing, delightful and charming to watch, even to hear. That lady is just absolute elegance!
The actress that plays Anne Hathaway's best friend is hilarious! A complete riot!
In general, this is a good comedy, teen movie with a good message, great cast (Hector Elizondo among others), great directing by the legendary Gary Marshall and awesome acting. Very fun to watch; I'd say funnier than the sequel. Recommended.

Shy and nerdy Mia Thermopolis, whose only wish is to get through her school day unnoticed and without causing herself any embarrassment, is about to get the surprise of a lifetime. Enter Mia's estranged grandmother who just happens to be the Queen of Genovia! Mia isn't overjoyed to discover she is a princess and does not attend her 'princess lessons' without a fight. To top it off, Mia has only three weeks to learn how to act and look like royalty. Her comical transformation plays out on screen with much laughter, fun, and sheer enjoyment. On a more serious note, Mia also finds herself hiding from the media, dealing with jealous classmates and trying to thwart a plot to take over Genovia.

This movie is one of my favorites. For one it co-stars my favorite actress, Julie Andrews, and debuts Anne Hathaway, who has become one of my favorite actresses. Secondly, it is a well done story of a common girl, Mia, played by Anne Hathaway, who learns she is really a princess.
In the movie the Queen of Genovia (Julie Andrews) takes on the challenge of Mia's princess training, as she is the last hope of keeping the throne from a count and countess, who are greedy for the power. Beind a princess is something Mia never dreamt of and with it causing her to lose her life of invisibility that she enjoyed she thinks about giving up her claim to the throne. In the end will she accept or reject her title as Princess of Genovia?
This a great family movie to watch and enjoy! Princess Diaries is one of my favorite movies ! If you have girls they would really like this movie due to all the magic and fun Anne Hathaway goes through to become a Princess ! I am a big Julie Andrews Fan ! Julie just delightful in this movie !
Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway are a great combination they play well off each other. This light hearted story is a film the whole family will enjoy. It would be a great addition to your family film collection. Mia's best friend is an absolute hoot.
