these are entry level audiophile speakers. as they are 4 ohm(use basically twice the power of 8 ohm speakers) your amp should be at least 200 watts per channel. you will need stands for these speakers to bring the treble to ear level. found the speakers sound best 8 feet apart from each other. extremely accurate with good imaging. if used strictly for music a sub is not needed but for HT I would recommend one. great speakers so make sure your amp is high quality as are your connections(i.e. cd player, speakers, etc) great speakers! as standalone speakers or part of a surround sound system you will be satisfied.
I purchased the Polk LSi9 for my office. I initially connected it to my Pioneer SX-1250 Receiver, Dual 1229 turntable with ortofon X, and Denon DCD 670 CD player. I played a variety of music from Jazz, Dance, Country, Electronica, Hip Hop, to Rock. The sound was full with great clarity and tone. The bass was solid and natural within my 15' x 15' office space. The sound can be heard all around and is not tiring, when you submit to this satisfying experience. I appreciate the great depth and range of these desktop speakers, when compared to others within its class. When playing jazz, I enjoyed the natural highs and solid lows from the LSi9, when compared to the Klipsch RB-81 where the highs are a bit harsh. I think that when I take them home, and play them in my large listening room equipped with audiophile equipment, I will be instantly blown away.
Perfect size and sound for a 12x15 music room. Works perfectly with my Harmon Kardon 3490 receiver and sony SACD player. Extreamly well built with the weight to prove it. At list price these speakers are a bargain considering their sound reproduction. Buy them for less and enjoy an amazing bargain. The proper 4ohm amp is required. These speakers can also be bi-amped.
This is an exceptional speaker. You will hardly believe you are listening to a bookshelf speaker. The bass is deep and solid. The mids and highs are the most lifelike I have heard in any speaker up to 5000.00. The ring tweeters are silky smooth and accurate to say the least. I am running 300W to these and they sing. Imaging is sharp and soundstage is wide and accurate. There is no way you can buy a better speaker with a budget in mind. I have the whole LSI surround system and I have put these in front instead of the floor standers. They just simply sound better to me. You will not be dissapointed with this purchase.
I purchase a pair of LSi9 bookself speakers to complete my surround sound system. A pair of LSi25 floorstanding speaker, a LSiC center channel, 2 polk subs and a pair of LS50 vintage speaker which I still love. The LSi9s are brand new and require a break in period. If they sound as good as the other LS series, I will be 100% satified. With the new upgradeing of AVR receivers changing from 5.1 to 9.1 surround, I am having a little problem decideing placement. The LSi9 will most likely will end up in the front high positions. The only thing I would suggest before buying LSi9 speakers is to consider that they are 4 ohms speakers and require a little more power to drive them. I am using EMOTIVA ampifiers at 200 watts per channel. I hope that POLK AUDIO will continue to carry vintage speaker parts. At one time owning polk audio was like owning a HARLEY cause you could always get parts. Will post update after breakin period.
