Wow, For the price the CS1 is the best deal available for a center speaker. I am a low budget audiofile... I also live in a condo and prefer clear sound over LOUD sound. So what I did was purchase 4 nice polk surround towers, to add to my higher end Sony receiver. I purchased 3 different center speakers. Bose vcs-10, boston cr-10, and Ultra Linear ULH65C, before I purchased the CS1. After a strict comparison between the 4 speakers, the CS1 was by far the clear winner!
This center speaker really sounds great. It is the matched speaker for the monitor series II. It is clear, crisp, and very clean sounding. Very good depth. The monitor series II replaced my 9 month old Klipsch HD 500 home theater speakers. These Polk's blow the Klipsch away hands down. I only wish that the panel behind the grill was black instead of silver. So they would match my other Polk speakers.
Solid construction, crisp and clear. Decent bass for no built-in sub woofers. Good price. The binding posts are quite nice, and the angled side to make the speaker angle up or down is quite a useful thing, also. These are great speakers, and some of the most attractive in my opinion. Would have been nice if it included a cloth cover for storing the speaker, but oh well. Matches well with Polk Audio Series II Monitor 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, or 70's. Although, the larger CS2 might be a better option if you're using 60's or 70's in a full surround set up. A good sub woofer to pair would be a Polk Audio PSW110 (for set ups with 30's/40's/50's and CS1) or a Polk Audio PSW125 (For set ups with 60's/70's and a CS2)
This little puppy puts out EVERYTHING it says AND MORE !!!
Great looks and well constructed.
Now for you purists out there, don't let the low price keep you away, the Polk CS1 will compare to speakers costing THREE or FOUR times the price.
Thank you Polk and Ebay for a great buy.
Replaced a Boston Acoustics vr-10 with this thing. The vr-10 sounded pretty good being a 3-way speaker, but the cs1 blew it out of the water. Very clear and detailed speaker. In conjunction with with two polk r40 towers and two polk r10 bookshelf speakers and capped off by a Klipsch sub10 this home theater system rocks.
