| Almost everything--you know about American history is wrong, because most textbooks and popular history books are written by left-wing academic historians who treat their biases as fact. But fear not, Professor Thomas Woods has written the perfect antidote. This delightful book--funny and inviting, but factually sound-shatters the myths about American history and separates fact from fiction. | |

This is a well documented ,albeit, abbreviated reference that takes aim at correcting revisionist history. It sets the record sraight with actual quotes and cross refences that debunk a lot of commonly held myths. It has a great bibliography, lots of quotes, and detailed references. It makes a great source for starting a research paper on American history topics. It's also just plain interesting, and fun the read.
An excellent short course of American History. Should be placed on the mandatory reading list of all high schools and universities. The P.I.G. (Politically Incorrect Guide) side bars are mentally stimulating.
If you would like to learn of American history that you would never be taught in school, this is the text for you. For example, we learned that the first settlers came here and pretty much lived in harmony. Not true! The Quakers couldn't stand the Puritans as their worship services were too formal. Quakers would heckle Puritan ministers and once ran up and down a church's aisles with nothing on! The colony of Massachuesettes made it illegal for Quakers to enter--of course we all know that could never be enforced. The book covers American history to present times. I'm sure you will find this book VERY interesting and a fast read.
Recorded history is bound to be skewed. If you thought Macarthy was right, or that LBJ was not all that wonderful, then this book is for you. Most history books seem to paint a picture that is so accepted by all as truth that it makes it into our dictionaries like the word Macarthyism. Maybe it was taken too far. But in the end, the list did exist. Read Ann Coulter's documented footnotes. I read Joy Hakim's series on a history of the US to my kids and the chapter on LBJ seemed too good to be true. So I read this one for balance. Real truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I recommend this book and any other that would make me feel less 'had' by the stories I read. How will the next book portray Obama and his policies? They sound wonderful but may work about as good as LBJ's. We'll see.
I was surprised by a lot of things in this book. This is much different than the history I learned in school. I listened to the unabridged audio book and I kept having to back up and repeat tracks to catch all the facts. There is so much info packed into this book. It starts at the very beginning with the first American settlers.
