Product Information
Pokemon Gold and Silver utilize the general design blueprint supplied in Red/Blue/Yellow -- Boy wanders the land to become the greatest Pokemon trainer in the world, with an archrival out to take your glory every step of the way. Both versions are identical in every way, except for the character images during battles, and the characters that can be caught in the wild, keeping with the "trading is necessary" design. The game has the familiar Japanese-style RPG engine, meaning top-down scrolling provides the perspective, and big-headed people inhabit the world. The hook in Pokémon is the fact that you yourself don't do your own fighting -- instead, creatures you capture in the wild supply the brute force of your battle skills. The creatures are Pokémon, and in Pokémon Gold and Silver there are exactly 251 different species of these animals hiding in the game, waiting to be caught and trained. Happy hunting!

Pokemon Silver Version (Game Boy Color, 2000)

This game has it all. You can be an action gamer. RPGer. Pokemon fan, whatever. This game is for you. Set on new islands as well as the old from Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, you are a new trainer on the verge of becomming a teen in the world of Pokemon. With 100 new Pokemon added to the already 151 from previous games you now must collect and train 251 pocket monsters. Your new rival makes even Team Rocket seem not so evil. You get to choose between three new beginning Pokemon in this adventure. Chickorita: A plant-type pokemon. Cyndaquil: A fire-type mole/mouse pokemon. Or Totodile: A water-type gator pokemon. This game features old characters and new alike. Gary's a gym trainer now and Ash is your last rival after you defeat the Elite Four. Prof. Oak and his brother play inportant roles.Pre-evolution pokemon now exist. Like Pichu. Pikachu's child. New pokemon types include the Dark/Evil types and the Steel types which can unleash a major hurt on the once powerful Psychic type pokemon (MewTwo trainers: Watch out!). You now carry the Pokegear rather than the Pokedex. The Pokegear has a cell phone, map, radio, and Pokedex functions. The new backpack now has lots of pockets so it is easier to find things. This new game also has a built in clock which actually keeps track of REAL time. Say it's 5:00am you time, it's the same in the game. The game is devided in time zones as morning, noon and night. Some pokemon like Hoothoot only appear at night. Also it keeps track of the days of the week. So if you play the bug catching game which can only be played on Tuesday, if you miss it that day you have to wait another whole week. Another new addition is the three legendary dogs. Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres beware. You now get to collect 16 badges. 8 new badges and the 8 original. Something very special happens when you complete the game but I won't spoil anything. I'll just say it's almost like getting two games for the price of one... You will NOT regret getting this game! Three words: "A Must Buy!"

The best pokemon game ever!

Pokemon silver has it all! Night pokemon, morning pokemon, a phone to call other people for battles, team rocket, old and new pokemon, two games in one (0nce you beat the first reagion you move on to the harder second region), chances to get amazing pokemon (ie: lapras, rare dog pokemon, five different Eve's, lugia or Ho-Oh, dragonite, etc.)...you just can't get any better than this game. You can play for hours and hours. There are so many scenarios that keep you entertained non-stop. I have played many different pokemon games, and with ever pokemon game after Silver and Gold version, I was disappointed. Ruby and Saphire cowar. You get the best of both worlds, most of the old pokemon which are always going to be the best because they are the originals, and new pokemon.

If you are buying a game of Ebay make sure to check the internal memory battery!! Silver and Gold have rather old batteries (1999-2000) that mean by this year 2009, this battery is already 9 years old. So you may need to exchange the battery once you get the game(s) off Ebay...it's easy to replace by yourself as well. There is a step by step guide on the internet, or go to an electronic store. Trust me...it's worth it.

True Classic...To this day, never topped!

Pokémon Silver and its counterpart, Pokémon Gold, are considered the best Pokémon games of all time. Even with the arrival of the much anticipated updated remakes of the games, Heart Gold and Soul Silver, the originals still hold onto that special place in the hearts of all who experienced the journey. What's so special about this game? (SPOILER ALERT)...As soon as you think you beat the game by following the generic Pokémon storyline of beating eight epic gym leaders and defeating the all-powerful Elite Four...BOOM...SURPRISE!!! You get to return to the region featured in the games that were released before Silver and Gold. That's right! The Kanto region from Red, Green (only in Japan), Blue and Yellow Version makes a debut as a whole new world to explore! Within the new region contains the same classic gym leaders with a few changes to the roster to add to the surprise and then an even more challenging Elite Four at the end. So all together, that's 16 gym badges to earn and two runs through the Elite Four which "Super Effectively" DOUBLES THE GAMING EXPERIENCE!!! But wait...the surprises don't end there. After completing both journeys through Johto AND Kanto...you climb the menacing Mt. Silver to face a familiar face...THE MAIN PROTAGONIST FROM THE PREVIOUS GAMES (Red, Green, Blue and Yellow...in case you're having trouble keeping up.) So in essence, if you've played any of the first generation Pokémon games and then played Pokémon Gold or Silver...the game pretty much pulls an epic plot twist by making your new "SECOND GENERATION YOU" fight your "FIRST GENERATION YOU!" WHOA!!!

One of the main reasons that this game was never topped...even with the new Fifth Generation coming in (trust me...I've already played the Japanese versions of Black and White...it's good...just not AS good)...is that none of the other versions featured the intertwining of regions. Among the five regions featured in the mainstream storyline games, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova, only Kanto and Johto were put into one game. The rest were separated into their own separate regions.

One little setback with the old Gold and Silver cartridges is that it utilized an internal battery (So that it could keep track of time, which is pretty awesome in itself!). Once that little battery lost its life, it either needs to be replaced through a complicated soldering procedure or you can choose to play the game without being able to save the game. So since I'm sure I have convinced a lot of you to go ahead and purchase your own copy of this INSTANT CLASSIC (and STILL A CLASSIC!!!), make sure when you are shopping around to check if the internal battery is still working and that the seller tested to make sure the game saves properly.

I'll tell you right now...if you have not played Pokémon Gold or Pokémon Silver or Pokémon Crystal...even if you've played every single version other than these three...you can never be a POKÉMON MASTER!
