I had the original Pokemon Gold from the Gameboy when I was younger and unfortunately I was growing out of Pokemon at the time and didn't enjoy it that much. However recently I had decided to try Pokemon again and decided to pick up the remakes of the earlier games (red, blue, gold, and silver). After playing some Pokemon Leaf Green I decided I had to try the next game in the series which is Gold/Silver.
Upon starting the game I instantly got excited and hooked. As I played on the feeling never left and all I wanted was to keep playing. Lucky enough for me was that the game is massive and you will find yourself playing for hours on end trying to become the best trainer. The games story has the basic catch them all and become the best trainer but it also adds the mystery of legends, the return of Team rocket, and your angry and hate filled rival who will do anything to be the best regardless of who gets hurt. Along with the story the characters are a lot of fun and it is enjoyable to keep learning more about them. Finally the Pokemon are what makes this game (as it should) there are a lot of fun and cool Pokemon to catch and that is half the fun of the game.
Some of the features that I like the most about this game are as followed:
1. Your lead Pokemon follows you as you walk the world: This feature is an improvement to the idea in Pokemon Yellow. It is so much fun to interact with your Pokemon to see how they feel about you and to find items on the ground. It is a shame they don't do this in more of the games.
2. The music: Like all Pokemon games the music is just great and fits with what is going on in the game. You will hear the same tracks repeatedly yet you never get tired of them.
3. Catching Pokemon: As with all other Pokemon part of your goal is to catch them all, however in this game they add a lot more to it. They add many types of Pokeballs some of which you can have built for you later in the game to add more strategy. It is a great feeling to finally catch that Pokemon that keeps getting away.
4. Game Play Mechanics: Pokemon HG adds a lot of fun features to make the game just feel right. The use of the touch screen as your menu makes this one of the best pokemon games to control and mange your overall game. You can access your Pokemon, save, items, phone, and pokedex with just a tap of a button. It doesn't sound like much but once you play an older Pokemon game you will miss that feature. Also the Pokegear was a nice touch in this game adding a fun phone feature where trainers you have defeated will randomly ask for a rematch or just give you free items. The radio is fun to play with and you get to catch rare pokemon with it if you play stations on certain days. The Pokedex is also a lot more enjoyable in this game and is much easier to navigate and play around with.
5. Extra features: This game offers a few fun extra features such as Online, Battle arenas, and the Pokemon Olympic games (which is basically mini games to win metals). You don't need to partake in these features but they are a lot of fun and worth the time to check out. Also this game adds Pokemon breeding which is also a lot of fun especially if you want to create the best Pokemon.
Pokemon Heart Gold as well as Soul Silver are some of the best Pokemon games in the series (my personal favorite). There is still so much more to say but I am running out of letters. It is a game worth its price and so much more. I have almost 200 hours put into this game.
I'll admit it: after chugging through several dozen hours of Pokemon Platinum, I felt that my time in the world of Pokemon RPGs was coming to an end. There's only so much "gotta catch 'em all" one can take, and after playing through the addictive series for more than a decade, I felt maybe it might be time to pass the review gauntlet off to another editor.
But then Nintendo and Game Freak did something devious: they sucked me back in again. Curse those guys tickling my gadget fetish with the bundled Pokewalker...
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are the two latest games in the Pokemon RPG series and are remakes of Pokemon Gold and Silver that existed on the Game Boy Color. On the surface the two games are virtually identical to each other, but each houses different species of Pokemon to make them unique. Game Freak did more than give the experience a new coat of paint with the 3D engine from Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum; they also added things to discover during the massive quest. Most importantly, the new Pokewalker gadget brings a welcome twist to the familiar franchise, making HeartGold and SoulSilver a bit more attractive to those who've already experienced the series several times over the last 14 years.
I collect Pokémon games, so I wanted this one too. I also had Soul Silver, and as always, if you want everything out of a Pokémon game, you need both of a pair.
Sometimes the fact that the first Pokémon of your party runs after you, can be a bit annoying, especially if it's the flying type, because the wings flap, but otherwise I like the feature. Pokéwalker is an interesting addition, and I guess it's most useful in finding some items and motivating you to actually walk in real life. I haven't really used it that much, so can't say much about it.
This game of course reminds me of Gold, Silver and Crystal, but it has still enough new to make it a game of its own. What I LOVE about it, is the very fast battles. I seriously was blown away when I realized how much quicker they are. My whole gametime is much less because of it. Some gyms were pretty hard to beat, actually, depending of the type of your party of course. Pokéathlon was also a nice, new addition to the game. Lots of new little games to play, points to be earned and items to get with the points.
If you have other Pokémon games, you probably will want to get this one too. If you don't have any, this would be a nice one to start with.
I live in Finland, and DS games are horribly expensive here, so I buy most of my games from ebay. I'm very happy I bought this one.
Pokemon HearGold is half of a pair of remakes of the highly popular Pokemon franchise games, released almost eleven years ago. The games, while still very formulaic, immerse the player into the shoes of the character (named at the player's discretion), and the goal of the game is as well known as the mascot of the series, Pikachu: to catch 'em all, and to gain Gym badges.
The games are the latest entries to the series (at least, here in the states, until March 6th, 2011), and boast powerful graphics and very clear, detailed scenery. Also, the sounds are amazingly presented on the Nintendo DS, and bring the game to life, even further pulling the player into the game.
The 493 different creatures that exist in the Pokemon world are presented in various situations, either as foes, or as possible partners, in an attempt to promote collecting them, and to become a powerful Trainer, with a team capable of taking on the final Champion of the game, who is a surprise return from the original games, Red, Blue, and Yellow.
If you're interested in turn-based games, with incredible graphics, rewarding gameplay, and a solid storyline, then you might want to check this game out, as it might provide a comforting entry into the franchise, or a refreshing look at the games you once loved, and chose to leave, due to creative differences. Either way, this game...it's not a game to pass on.
Pokemon, A game that has accompanied me for the past 15 years of my life, all games where excellent and HeartGold is no exception to this. Pumping out some of the higher pokemon graphics in the product line, the interface is by far the easiest to use. The main menu, which in previous versions you had to press start to pull up, is now constantly on the touch screen of your DS making it easy to access all of those vital menus easily and quickly.
Animations where stepped up a notch from previous pokemon versions and in HeartGold they are something worth admiring. In game cinematic scenes are rather new to pokemon, and HeartGold comes out with a massive cinematic for the legendary pokemon of the game Ho-Oh, which leaves me stunned at the amount of effort and detail that has been placed into this game.
Older gamers will remember that in Pokemon Yellow, Pikachu followed you around everywhere, and in HeartGold it is now back, but with a massive change...EVERY pokemon you own will follow you around and you can communicate with them and see how they are feeling adding a new dimension to caring for your pokemon.
The pokewalker that comes with HeartGold is extremely addictive. You place one of your pokemon into it and attach it to your waist when you exercise or go to the shops and play a series of mini-games and get the chance to catch some rare and powerful pokemon and add them directly into your HeartGold game, the same goes with items.
All in all, Pokemon HeartGold definitely stands out of one of the best games in the series to date, bringing the new generation of players into the old generations games via remaking. Wonderful game with endless hours of play and satisfaction.
