Book is Okay but not the Best

Created: 01/03/09
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are amazing games, with as much or more to do after beating the "Elite Four" as getting to that climax point. This book doesn't begin to cover the vast scope of these games. The good points about the guide book include maps, and key events in each area leading to the Elite Four (the first half of the game). There is no information whatsoever about the second half of the game.

There are many, many bad points. Errata are common. The guide is poorly organized - I found myself lost over and over, with the need to go online to find out where to go next. The guide gives only some hints of what to do next in each area, and at that, the user needs to flip back and forth between different sections of the book every few minutes. One of the worst aspects of the book includes a total lack of information about the more than 300 Pokemon that become available to the player after beating the Elite Four. The guide doesn't list these Pokemon anywhere, so the user must either take many hours playing to find any given Pokemon or go on-line for answers. Also, other than for the three "starter" Pokemon, there is absolutely NO Pokedex in this guide, and not even information about how and when the Pokemon encountered in the first half of the game will evolve. This would be marginally acceptable if the Pokedex Prima will put out in a month were to be available at the time the games were released, but the Pokedex isn't scheduled for release until late May or early June.

I bought the diamond and pearl official trainer's guide so that I could play the game to it's fullest and create better battle strategies. I loved the condition that it was in. It was pratically brand new. It's great and I'm still using it.

Prima Has Let Us Down This Time

Created: 05/01/07
Usually Prima does very well on their guides in my opinion. This time... not so much. First off the guide isn't in order. (Example: Right at the begining it goes from Sandgem town to Route 219, 220, 221 which you can't even do anything on until much later in the game... I understand that it is right below Sandgem Town, but still...) Second: Some information is randomly scattered throughout the guide. (Example: Certain pokemon you can trade in different town is all on 1 page instead of in the respective town where you can trade it.) Third: The guide has no trainer info on the trainers you pass on each route like previous guides. (Personally I find it more challenging to not know what pokemon I will be fighting every step of the way, but some people like that kind of info. Fourth: and my final rant: the Pokedex is awful. It only has info on where to get the pokemon (no info on it's type or its moves and when they are learned) Prima is coming out with a seperate book for that... All in all I'd have to say go with the Nintendo Power guide for this particular game (it has it's own problems, but it is the better of two evils). I bought them both, and never even open the Prima one anymore. Sorry Prima, you don't often let me down.

Very helpful for the game! The maps are nice too have and I love the colors throughout the book! Even though it could show where items are, I really like the product.
