First, a very well produced product. I don't keep cases, but the art on this one does not disappoint, and I've kept it. Great transfer, as well. This was not made from a poor print. My favorite scene -- in which the dead astronauts rise from their graves -- is something I have paid close attention to through many sittings, and I have to say it made clear to me that this particular transfer has great, deeply saturated color. Could be my favorite Bava film. If you haven't seen it, you should. It's pacing is a bit more relaxed than current films, but it absolutely works and there is never a dull moment.
This movie is a great drama from beginning to end, with limited special effects
it makes a good B Sci-fi flick of it's era. The acting is a little stiff at times
but the script is well written. It's about two space ships exploring the galaxy
searching for life on other planets, both ships land and one is the focus of
the story, while the crew of the other ship cannot be reached. The first ship
sends a team to discover that the second ship has fallen victim to the unknown
and the story continues from there I am not going to give away details, but I
will say this is as good or better then a season 1 episode of the original
This sort of foeirgn B-Movie stuff is fascinating in and of itself. Its like part of a alternate universe of cinema history. As a film in and of itself, no great shakes (one could argue that Scott's Alien learned a thing or two from this number), and one watches the way one reads a horror comic: knowing that this is something fringe and meant to exist in fringe alone. For the culturally sensitive and aware horror buff, there's much more meat in something like this (no pun intended).
Nothing at all about your classical vampires but, entertaining just the same. Exploration/Rescue crews of two space ships are taken over by aliens, desperate to escape their dying planet, who take over their bodies. Colors are vivid, acting is typical "B" movie quality. The plot is interesting with an unexpected twist at the end.
I thought this was a dismal movie. I like Mario Bava but this movie was pretty flakey. The quality of the picture was fine. I didn't think that the acting was all that great and the props were just so so. It was ok for watching one time but I got bored with it. I would'nt watch it again. I recomend that you save your money for something elce.
