Pioneer delivers a rock-solid 'Universal Player'.
This device plays just about everything, except BluRay discs. If you have SACD discs; a stack of movies you've burned to DVD-R's; online movies & videos in a variety of formats (including divx); DTS audio discs; or traditional DVD's - this player will play them effortlessly.
And you can program the system to output the results to match your system's capabilities. For example, perhaps leave DTS encoded digitally, or output the converted audio through all 6 RCA analog outputs, or maybe downmix to 2-channel stereo. You're in charge!
Video output is equally versatile and stunning, including upscaling to 1080p resolutions.
My only caveats include speed of operation changes, and product weight. Each new disc or power up can take a few seconds longer than other systems. And the chassis is light, easily moved while pressing faceplate buttons.
Excellent product overall
I have previously owned a new Pioneer Elite Dv-37 DVD player for which I paid $800.00. I believe that the far more inexpensive DV-48 surpasses it in most every parameter except CD playback. Though even in this area the DV-48 is quite admirable and outstanding considering the prices that you can pick one of these up for.
Looking for a great DVD player and a very good CD player? Do yourself a favor and save some money to boot and buy one of these excellent players.

I was looking for a DVD/CD player to go with a portable A/V system for church. Not only does it play DVD well, it also loads audio cds quickly, shows track number on the display, and has chapter/track advance buttons on the unit.
this is by far the best upscale dvd player on the market. the pitcher look just like film in the theaters.
