Pict.quality thru S-VHS output-VG+
Digital Audio thru Coax-Optical VG+( the audio from a Elite DV-37 is drastically superior but this machine should be adequate for most systems)
Remote: not the most convenient thing that ever existed but usable(not in the dark).
Machine remembers place on disc when you shut it off.
Excellent contrast and color quality.
Plays CD-R and DVD-R
The only con I have is that if you wanted to skip to the next chapter, it will only do this one chapter at a time. The newer Pioneer units could skip as many chapter as so desired just by holding down the "next" button.
A worthwhile machine if you do not need progressive scan and just use 480I. Even as a CD transport it is a great machine.
Great unit, my first DVD player. Retailed for $299.99 at local (big name) electronics store, but it was so worth it then. Unit came with a free Pokemon DVD, and coupon for 5 big screen releases.
The only problem we ever had was not with the player, but DVDs. No performance or damaging problems at all, but you could get some high speed drive noise due to a DVD that does not balance as it should. Some call it disk wobble. Although, that may be a good thing; it made me exchange a disk at a retailer; and after the exchange the disk was soundless. An unintended quality control?
If you find one, and it the price is fair; get it.
I was looking for a device that would play DVDs and music recorded to CDs. I was using a CD Player that was erratic and sometimes would not even play commercial CDs. I bought the Pioneer DV-525 DVD Player because it had the features that I needed, the price was right and my receiver is also made by Pioneer. It turned out to be a great match! Now, I have a DVD Player and a CD Player that plays all my recorded and commercial CDs.
Full, transparent sound.
Great picture, plays everything!
doesnt play mp3's
not multi regional
why I bought it:
reliability, styling, performance
I have one I use just as a cd player, and one just to play dvd's !
This thing works great. It's a solid good looking machine built to last.I needed a dvd but didn't have a ton of cash so it was a good way for a guy to get one at a good price.I am very pleased with it.
