Pioneer, wow how far your quality has fallen. Rode your name to fame, but now, your products are eh and way over price. Perhaps pioneer hasn't realized there is a reccession going on, but wake up. Your pricing is ridiculous and your product is just blah. Go with kenwood, they are in with garmin and unlike pioneer, wont bankrupt you for their products, which is far better. Oh and Kenwood actually makes installation instructions that make sense.
Oh yeah and PIONEER, your customer service ABSOLUTELY SUCKS. Really, wal mart has you beat. Really, leave a message and we will call you back???????? yeah 2 days later (customer support). Tech support, get a snickers bar, because oohh your going to be their a while. Over an HOUR on HOLD and that is if yuor lucky.
Display is actually a 3. For some reason it only allowed a 5 choice. The display is really "blocky" as in large pixels. Menu is confusing and not many settings available while driving. I am still getting used to how it operates but I have seen better interfaces.
Honestly the Nuvi line of portable GPS units are a much better unit, but I wanted GPS from my Pioneer head unit.
The only application you can use from the Apps menu is the IPod app. Unit is smaller than I expected but the dock is pretty large. Had some confusion over how it connected to the head unit. It is not IPBus, it connects via a RGB connection. Keep in mind that the straight connector plugs into the head unit and the angled one goes into the dock. I had run the wires under carpet and interior panels only to realize that the angled connector blocked the auxillary video input. Spent 30 minutes rerunning wire. Sigh. Overall, I have bought the unit and absolutely hate returning so I'll live with it for a while until I swap radios again but will not purchase another Pioneer GPS unless I see a dramatic difference in how they operate from the interface. Purchased for about $250 (shipping included) and feel that I should have paid no more than $130 - $140 for the device I received.
I added this unit to my AVH-P3200dvd Pioneer receiver. It linked up as it should and I completed the free upgrade on the maps and points of interest. I do like the NAV features. It compensates quickly and the directions are clear and loud over the cars speakers. I like that if you need to rehear a direction you just touch the screen and it will repeat itself. I give it a 4 out of 5 only because it doesn't give traffic updates like my old NUVI did but overall it works very well and it isn't going to get you lost.
I wanted a GPS in the dash of my truck, like the newer vehicles have in them. My wife and I shared
One for a couple of years, and every time one of us needed it, we had to figure which vehicle it was in.
Not any more. My wife and myself like it better than the portable one. It is very easy to understand
Compared to the portable one. We both have one in our own vehicle now! Glad I bought it!
ok usable gps add-on unit ,not many interest points ,what i dont like is map view - looks like garmin 10 years ago ,graphics are not impressive at all ,highway exit views are much better ,overall not bad but i wouldn't be paying more than $250 for it ,for more than 250 i would add another 80$ and buy new model avic-u250
