B60 i-series is good, but Ping has better B60 models
Created: 09/29/09
I have reviewed a number of the B60 models, so please see the detailed analyses of them. The i-Series for the B60 has a decent insert with a hollow alignment aid sitting on top of the flange. The feel is pleasing and solid, even on off center strikes.
However, several other B60 models have improvements and styles I find more appealing. The B60 G5i model probably has a better alignment system with an insert, plus you and pick up your ball by backhanding it onto the flange. (You can't do that with the box on the back of the i-Series.)
The new Karsten has a good alignment system of parallel and perpendicular metal casting, should you prefer a stainless steel putter with no insert. The 50th Anniversary model is the same casting, but in a manganese bronze metal - the original Ping alloy.
The iWi models are weight adjustable. The IsoPur putters have larger heads. The beryllium nickel models have the softest, deepest, most-solid sounds, which translate into your subjective feel. Some folks like the distance control of the IsoForce models. Any of these properties may be more important to you than the features of the i-Series.
Based on 3000 rounds of golf and 40 years as a scientist, I would rate the B60's in this order:
BeNi (best feel)
IsoPur2 (lively)
iWi (adjustable)
Karsten, 50th Anniversary (budget)
G5i, IsoForce (copper or aluminum)
stainless steel, IsoPur
manganese bronze (skittish)
BeCu (soft, dings easily)
G2, i-Series
However, ALL of Ping's products are good. What we are talking about is the difference of an A+, A, or A- on a report card. Hand me any of the above in my proper length, lie, loft, and grip preference, and I feel confident I could go have a good putting round. Ping makes good equipment, and they stand behind their products. And truthfully in this age of precise manufacture, the differences in casting vs milling is more in one's mind than in the putter.

Easy alignment

This putter is very easy to align and the offset keeps your hands slightly ahead of the ball...the proper position. This was a drastic change for me, as I have been using the Heavy Putter for the past two years. Took a few rounds (and lots of practice) to get used to the feel. But, now that I have, I love it.
