About the Manufacturer
Engineer and inventor Karsten Solheim got his start as an engineer working for GE in Ithaca, New York. His passion for the game set him on a journey to create a better putter. At the time he thought he was simply building it for his own personal use, but in 1959, Karsten’s ongoing garage experiments yielded an innovative putter he called 1A design. This putter had very distinctive design qualities, among them, a unique tone at impact, a sound that would echo throughout the game for generations to come…“Ping.” The Anser putter began a long and proud history of truly innovative equipment design throughout Ping’s entire product line (ultimately resulting in over 400 patents) that has set Ping at the top of the list of golf design and manufacturing companies. The company is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Karsten Solheim has passed away and his son John has taken the helm.

Ping BeCu

Created: 01/21/11
The Zing is the black sheep of Ping designs. It's offensive looking to the point where it's beautiful.

Copper, although aesthetically pleasing, I've found that the softness and feel of these BeCu clubs were hyped by the public more than the manufacturers. People automatically think that a copper club is going to be butter soft. Well yes of course copper on its own in pure form is soft, but in an alloy form mixed with beryllium and whatever else Ping puts in their melting cauldron, it's actually got a rather hard clink to it when you strike the ball.

So visually playing a copper club is just plain slick, but functionality... give it some thought? Yes they don't make these clubs anymore for the reason that the manuf. process was hazardous to the worker's health, but if copper clubs were so good would the PGA and other touring pros not be playing old sets? Or I'm guessing on a non mass production scale the tour pros could have the manuf's churn out a low volume of copper clubs exclusively for their consumption while taking additional measures to keep workers safe. If they were really that soft and feel-rich, pros would be playing copper. Try to find a pro with a copper iron in their bag. Nickel on the other hand, not sure why that didn't catch on (or why they stopped making Nickel clubs). The nickel Ping ISI's at least from what I remember did actually feel better than steel. Very different than the copper.

In the meantime I'll use my beastly Zing BeCu 2-iron to impress the halfway house girl with a Steve McQueen dose of cool.

Great club--been playing Pings since 1979 and this is another great club that Ping manufactures. Club is easy to hit, gets the ball airborne quickly, and has a nice solid feel to it. I highly recommend Pings for their playability.
