About the Manufacturer
Engineer and inventor Karsten Solheim got his start as an engineer working for GE in Ithaca, New York. His passion for the game set him on a journey to create a better putter. At the time he thought he was simply building it for his own personal use, but in 1959, Karsten’s ongoing garage experiments yielded an innovative putter he called 1A design. This putter had very distinctive design qualities, among them, a unique tone at impact, a sound that would echo throughout the game for generations to come…“Ping.” The Anser putter began a long and proud history of truly innovative equipment design throughout Ping’s entire product line (ultimately resulting in over 400 patents) that has set Ping at the top of the list of golf design and manufacturing companies. The company is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Karsten Solheim has passed away and his son John has taken the helm.

PING ISI Nickel 5 iron with stiff graphite shaft.

Created: 04/28/08
Well balanced forged club feel, but with a large sweet spot. A very high quality product, even at over ten years old, the ISI's are not outdated in performance, compared with the G5 model. I bought this single 5 iron and a G5 to demo, the G5 has a more rounded toe. The ISI line is the last of the classic Ping EYE type designs that has the high/pointy toe look. Long and straight with the stiff shaft, can fade or draw moderatly as needed.

Ping ISI Nickels

I've played this line of irons since the late 90s and don't plan on changing. The problem is that Ping no longer manufactures these irons and replacements are difficult to come by. When I lost a five iron in Austin, I was fortunate enough to find one on E-bay to replace it.

I play them because of the feel and the look but mainly because of the confidence they give me when I address the ball.

Great club

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Bought a Ping isi Nickel 2 iron and it has been great for getting me back into the fairway after an errant tee shot. Gives me very good distance with a very low ball flight. Off a tee, it is a great club for a stinger shot into the wind.

It's a good club, from a reliable brand. I'd recomend ping to any golfer. And who doesn't love the fact that it's previous owner was a famous boxer.
