I wanted to get the current state of the art tech when I purchased my HDTV. I took the time to go to numerous stores and watch each type availible, in every resolution, refresh rate or screen type. For my needs the LED LCD was superior, I could mount up to a 38 inch wide unit and wanted a min 120 Hz. This same TV was up to $1000 more retail. The TV is fantastic and the picture and sound are exactly what you expect from an LED LCD HDTV 1080p 120 Hz, it actually looks more like watching a play thru a window than a TV program. Magnificant peice of equiptment I would recommend to anyone in the market for a HDTV within its parameters.
Philips LCD TVs have a feature called Digital Natural Motion (DNM) that supposedly helps disguise the blur effect that many notice with LCDs due to response times. The user guide has no explanation or description of what this feature does or doesn't do or when you should use it (or not). TV comes default with DNM in "Minimum" mode - if you are playing games or have a computer hooked up to the TV you will see a noticeable and unacceptable lag (makes almost all of my Wii games unplayable). I use this TV primarily for console gaming and some DVD so you can imagine how I felt when I first plugged in the Wii and and I saw this horrible lag - I thought I got a lemon TV!! I quickly went to the Philips support website and noticed that the top troubleshooting topic for this TV was "lag" issues - the troubleshooting article explained that if your TV has DNM, you can turn it off to eliminate the lag. That's exactly what I did and now the TV works perfectly as expected for everything.
So my only gripes about this TV are that DNM should be factory set to "Off" before they ship and the users guide should provide a detailed explanation of this feature including pros/cons. If you ask me, DNM is useless - but the TV is fine.
Picture quality and clarity of this LED TV is excellent. Compared this TV to a Sony before I bought it, I like the Philips better. You get the whitest whites and the blackest blacks. Philips firmware upgrade capability far exceeds the others. If you have a thumb/jump drive go to the Philip website and download the latest firmware update to improve the features of your TV. Called Philips customer care regarding a general question and received outstanding service. I highly recommend this TV. By the way, I bought it at an excellent price.
I was looking for a reasonably priced HDTV to replace the CRT TV that I gave up when I moved a couple of months ago. For what I wanted -- LED, 40", 120 hz refresh rate, the prices tended to start at around $800-900. So I was interested in the Philips because of its low price tag. User reviews were really positive, and I like what I saw when I looked at it in a store. I couldn't see any reason not to buy it, even though I was suspicious of the low price. Wow! Am I glad that I did! The colors really pop out, and picture quality is so good that I sometimes think that I'm watching 3D! Set-up was extremely easy -- all you have to do is follow the diagrams in the manual, and then the on-screen instructions. I especially appreciated the ease with which I could calibrate the color and density by using a series of paired images in which I picked the image that had the color and density that I preferred. After a few weeks, I bought a Philips blu-ray player to go with the set, and again, set-up was easy and the picture looks great. I highly recommend this TV for people who are looking for good quality at a reasonable price!
For general viewing of programs on cable or DVD's we have found this products to be superior. Excellent picture quality in any mode with great definition, color, sharpness, motion accuracy and no glare. LED LCD is the way to go for wide vision area and minimizing reflected glare. We don't game or use Blue Ray and haven't tried internet hook ups, but for our predominant uses it is superb. Great value as well.
