| New York Times bestselling author Bertrice Small takes us back to the sensuality, drama, and intrigue of King Henry's sixteenth-century court to tell the story of the daughter of one of her most beloved characters. The eldest child of Rosamund Bolton and heiress to the Friarsgate manor, Philippa Meredith is devastated when she discovers that the man she sought to marry has rebuffed her. But it is this sudden change of fortune that sweeps the spirited beauty back to her place in the court of Queen Katherine of Aragon-and into the arms of Crispin St. Clair, the Earl of Witton. But when Philippa stumbles onto a plot to assassinate King Henry VIII, their very love is tested as they attempt to unmask those who are plotting to tear the royal court asunder. | |

This is the 3rd book in the Frairsgate Series written by Bertrice Small. I would highly recomend reading the whole series in order. The first book introduces Rosamond Bolton who as a child has a tirant of an uncle named Henry. He tries for years to take the Frairsgate estate from her being foiled by help from those closest to her even including england and scotlands kings, queens and princesses, which is quite a feat for a farming country girl. She has three daughters the oldest of which is Phillipa. The story is of how after she discovers the man she was to marry is entering the church and no longer wants to marry her. She must decide her fate when she decides she prefers the court life to that of her North Cumbria border home of Frairsgate. She must find a home and a title of nobility after giving up her rightfull heritence. With help from her Uncle Thomas she is introduced into the court of King Henry and Queen Cathrine. And finds her place among the Queens household serving Ladies. Eventually finding her way to what fate (with a little bit of help from her beloved Uncle Tom) has in store for her.
As I stated before read the whole series in order, it is a story of a family and their estate and I believe you will be as enchanted by all the characters as I am.
Philippa is one of Rosamund's daughter's. The series of 4 books is a continuation of Rosamund's family. It seems Bertrice Small has a talent for a reader to lose sleep. Can't wait to turn the next page. She is historically correct, and sensual in the fiction. Great reading.
As always her books are great. This is book 2 of a 4 book set and you wont be able to put it down. If you want another great set of books this is it and try her Hetar books. FANTASTIC
