Gore fans stay away. Nice chilling tale here without buckets and buckets of blood and gore. Story orientated.
Penny Dearborn (Rachel Miner), is a young woman who suffers from a phobia of automobiles ever since she survived an auto accident that killed her family. Her therapist Orianna (Mimi Rogers) drives Penny on a long trip to the scene of the accident. Unfortunately, this confrontational therapy is sidetracked when Orianna's car hits a pedestrian on a lonely, isolated road. The victim – who seems more than a little sinister – survives, hitching a ride with Penny and Orianna to a closed-down camp in the woods. The car breaks down; the therapist goes looking for help, and eventually Penny finds herself trapped inside the automobile when the hitchhiker turns out to be a homicidal lunatic, recently escaped from an asylum for the criminally insane.
The story is built around a simple but effective conceit: Penny is afraid of automobiles, but dreadful circumstances force her to take refuge in one. As the lurking maniac wrecks havoc, the car becomes both protection and prison, forcing her to overcome her phobia in a way that her therapy never achieved. This does for automobiles what Alfred Hitchcock did for the shower in PSYCHO !! BUY THE MOVIE on EBAY NOW! (-:
This is the first of the "8 Films to Die For" that I watched and I must say that if all 8 are like Penny Dreadful I'll be pleasantly surprised. Reading reviews of all the movies while they were in theatres I thought they were going to suck but Penny Dreadful really delivered.
It's scary and full of suspense, the acting is pretty good and the sound effects are great.
Worth Buying?: I think it is, but I also think you should just wait for the Box Set to come out and buy all 8 together.
Penny Dreadful is one of the eight films that came out during horrorfest 1. As I have sid in other reviews the horrorfest movies are truly a must see one of a kind independant film. You really have to check out horrorfest to see what it is all about. Happy Viewing

I think this movie pretty much explains how people fear certain things and that sometimes fear isn't only just fear but perhaps a preparation of someones futures events and destiny. This movie is moving in the way of awakening the survival strategies we all have and the fear that keeps us running at the same time.
