We've been using cellphones, Droid and Galaxy, to make lavish photosets of art-shrine arrangements we conjure up on fast food tables, so, lots of tight shots, exotic angles, taking the artefacts of crappy focal length as just part of the Wonderland World. But there were still a lot of lightings that just couldn't be fixed in photoshop, or being limited to posing a piece in front of a light fixture because the sensors would saturate if they saw it. Now we have focal length, can use zoom or not to have vertical lines parallel or not, sensors don't saturate at light fixtures, good range of exposures, quickly accessible, three aspect ratios, easily accessible, learning to snap the shutter without micro-jiggling it, kind of a Zen pure intention, but apparently its image processing can handle micro-jiggles, even on the slowest shutter, if it's not on zoom. And we have no more mismatch between how dizzying-great the shot looked in the viewer and the wash-out travesty that night on the computer monitor. We can count on the experiences matching now.
I'd be more helpful if I had something negative to say...I miss the files being named with date and time. Here they're just given the absolute number of the shot over the life of the camera, date and time buried down in the file tags. And I'm having to learn to compensate for the foreshortening and darkening when I have to look at the viewer from an angle...displays the picture for a couple seconds after the shot, though, and the camera/play photos switch is right at your thumb, only confused it with the on/off the first few times.
But more positives...Battery's good for two sessions, of about 200 photos each, recharging is easy, as is swapping out SD cards...and initiating USB connection--plug in, turn on, screen's right there, hit 'menu' and you're in. Comes with a good case.
Still haven't used most of its functions, so that's the most help I can be now.
Panasonic Lumix cameras are excellent. I chose the ZS6 over the ZS5 for the increased resolution on the screen and the screen size of 3.0" itself. It's a much easier camera to see especially when your eyes aren't what they used to be.The ZS7 has a GPS function which tends to take the battery down a bit sooner than the other two . This is why I feel that this is the best camera of these three models. It has a wide variety of functions and the quality of this camera made it my choice after a long hard study on digital cameras.Looking forward to many years and many pictures and videos with this camera !!!!!!!!!
I love this camera. I bought 4 of these cameras: For Me, Mom, Son, and Brother. They take great wide angle & zoom photos. Low light photos are a bit tricky but if you play around with the settings you can get some great shots. Light weight & small so it easily slips in a purse or pocket.
It just feels right in your hand. I stand 6'1" and always have trouble with these small point and shoot camera's. That was until I got my hands on the Pan Lumex, with Leica lens. My photographic experience is extensive, even been published. Don't always want to lug around heavy equipment. Panasonic makes some of the best camera's around, image quality is sharp and crisp. Color rendition is spot on perfect, skin tone is warm. The menu system is just logical and works very well. Tons of features and settings to get creative. My favorite feature on this camera is the lens. Rule of thumb, the larger the lens, the sharper the image. Most small camera's have this tiny lens that just isn't sharp. Lumix cameras have fantastic fast sharp lens's. I would rate this camera 9/10 especially for the price. Can not think of any negatives. Hope this was helpful.
I bought this product because I wanted a second camera for my wife so I would not have to keep retrieving my original camera from her. We now have two identical cameras and both of us are happy.
As one who has spent decades using many different cameras (digital and non digital, 35mm SLR's and even an old box camera), the Panasonic Lumix is a joy to use.
It is small and has enough features to keep a semi professional photographer happy.
Although there will always be newer or "better" cameras coming on the market- this one is a classic.
