Product description

Product Information
The DMC-GH2 boasts its high performance to make the photographic experience even more comfortable and fun. It features the world's fastest level light speed AF which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by doubling the drive speed from 60 frames per second to 120 frames per second. Not only the accuracy but also the speed excels by far than the high-end DSLRs with phase difference AF with the advanced contrast AF system in the DMC-GH2. Combined with the touch AF control, setting and focusing at the subject is incredibly easy and quick, never missing the spur-of-the-moment. Panasonic also refined its comprehensive digital imaging technologies for every camera of Lumix G micro system to raise the level of image quality that rivals or even surpasses D-SLR cameras. The developed 16.05-megapixel multi-aspect live MOS sensor adopts the high speed digital ?Maicovicon. In addition to the high speed, which is an advantage of the CMOS sensor, Panasonic adds its original pixel mix technology. A dedicated process exclusively for ?Maicovicon of the DMC-GH2 is developed by applying the top-class high performance transistor and its interconnection process needed for the high speed operation of digital circuit to make low-noise photodiode and transistor with reduced wiring to achieve both high resolution and high aperture-ratio as the DMC-GH1.

CNET Editors' review

Excellent
  • THE GOOD

Excellent video quality; articulating display with generally good touch-screen interface; variable frame-rate movie mode.

  • THE BAD

Annoying AVCHD-imposed limitations for video; no way to lock AF area on touch screen; middling battery life.

  • THE BOTTOM LINE

It's speedy, feature-packed, and an excellent ILC for shooting video, but to consistently get really good photos out of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 requires shooting raw.

This camera is excellent in many ways, I already have a GH1, the GH2 has a higher resolution, touchscreen and some other bells and whistles, maybe the best part is the live view HDMI essential when working on videos with clients or focus assistants.
On the other hand I don't know why Panasonic did not include the DMW-DCC8 DC coupler cable, I need it to work with timelapses or long indoor recordings, on the GH1 it came boxed, not here. Worst is that the included battery doesn't charge, it keeps blinking and the 2 OEM batteries I bought chargewd only once and never again, it seems like the camera has an internal disabler for 3rd party batteries, so long my camera is boxed until I resolve this problem

Lumix DMC-GH2K

Good camera, lots of buttons to get direct access to various key functions
Swivel screen very useful, great eyepeice screen too
Great EV correction mechanism, easy and fast +/- 5EV is great
I do a lot of HDR so I like the ability to bracket 7 pictures
Forced to do 5 pictures to get +/- 2EV, would have liked 3 pictures for that like on my EOS 5 MK2
I would like to have more EV variation on Bracketing +/-2EV per step instead of one right now
Great 3 customs menus
Too bad cannot combine bracketing and 2s delayed picture as you have to buy the remote control in C1/C2/C3
I like the AE/AF lock button ergonomy as you can hit it without looking at it
I like the depth of field control capability and shutter speed effect control
I wish quick menu was more practical also it is not bad
Hight speed drive not available in bracketing, that is an issue when doing HDR without a tripod
Camera works well in Infrared, the control screen can be used at +5EV with manual focus (very cool)
Need to correct +1EV for standard Infrared picture
Besides that got the following lenses
8mm fisheye
7-14 zoom
14 2.5 prime (can do infrared) 46mm filter
20 1.7 prime (can do infrared) 46mm filter
45 2.8 Prime Macro (can do infrared) 46mm filter
Can travel with small Domke bag and this is light!!!!
And Gitzo Traveller 1550 (the best!) with Arco Swiss small head (can rotate and stay flat)

Plus 100-300 when needed

Great Camera BUT fragile and I mean very Fragile the camera is great but build quality totally sucks IF you use this camera outdoors filming in a harsh inviroment it needs protection this is not well sealed and totally not shock proof like a pentax K5 or a canon 5D mk2
that said for Video this is AWESOME but treat it nice or it will break I know I have wrecked 2 of them and in my opinion they were not abused compared to the way i use my other gear.
I still film with a GH2 as it has great video performance but I will most likely change to a Nikon D800 as soon as I can get one for build quality

I bought this DSLR for it's video quality. I use it to record my nephews playing football. It is AWESOME. I love the camera. The only issue I had was that since I used the 14-45mm zoom lens with it, there is a lot of camera shake and it does not do well in low light situations. But I ALSO BOUGHT a shoulder harness and bought the 20mm Prime Lens.

This is my second GH2. My interest is in video, scuba diving and travelling. Small is critical. Superb pictures is critical. I use it in a Nauticam housing, and with a variety of lenses. There is not much wrong with this camera, and when used in conjunction with Vitaliy Kiselev's hacks, it produces superb video. It's native lenses are pretty good and it can use almost any lens made in manual mode.
It's size and video quality leave Canon and Nikon in its wake and the Sony NEX7 is hamstrung by poor video and large lenses. This camera really hits the sweet spot if you are primarily a video person.
