Very well done series showing the various aspects of a combat deployment I think the technical advisors did a top notch job with this, and I was sorry to see the series end after only one season. In my opinion, Sgt. Scream and Angel are the two most complex characters in the series, and it would have been interesting to watch their continued developement, but, well, it didn't happen. It's not possible to bring combat into a living room on the TV for anyone who has never had the experience, but this series does an excellent job of putting forward the outside forces that work on soldiers all the time and can be the root cause of momentary inattention that results in the injury or death of that troop, or those he is with, as well as the occassional opportunism that has drastic unintended consequences (Smoke's 'beer run'). I'd highly recommend this series for those who have a genuine and legitimate interest in the lives of our military men and women, the effects of warfare upon them and those close to them, and especially how combat forges an inseperable bond between people who are so diametrically opposite as individuals that outside the shared combat and its necessary interdependence, none of the squad in civilian life, before the unit's active engagements, would have invited any of the others over for coffee. Top notch.
Good topic, describing every day living of our soldiers in Iraq, Stephen Bochco's last work for TV worth to see., Previous series like Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue were good, so this one promised something new.
Not excellent but good, as I said, is worth to watch.
One of the best, if not the best, military scenerio series made. Made with the same flair as all Bochco works.. My only disappointment is there wasnt a Season 2.. WOuld have watched and bought it as well...A great representation of what front line soldiers really face from day to day.. Not just the war aspesct but the home front aspects as well.. Like the soldier who los his leg and the struggles he face to readjust to civilian life being disable...Great great series, to me, a must watch for anyone 16-30....
Over There is probably the best series that I have ever seen, that shows what situations the American Soldiers must deal with every day in Iraq. I ought to know because I helped train them and have been over there myself. The series was like reading reports that we received, and by situations and phone calls that I received from soldiers wives and family members. I was an infantry soldier for 20 years. I have been retired for only 3 years. The reason I bought the season 1 of Over There is to be able to show my boys what I did when I was a soldier when they are old enough to understand it. If you think that all of negative publicity about the war in Iraq is all there is , then you need to watch this season 1 of Over There. Hopefully it will open your eyes and you will be proud of what the US Military soldiers and families go thru to give us our freedom of speech.
If you have ever wanted to feel what life is like for the men and women in the military, and their families, you need to watch this TV series. This DVD set will strike about every emotion you have. If you are former military, like myself, it will bring back so many memories of that past life, even the getting up at 3:30am to leave at 10:00.
A must watch for those who want to understand the military. Those who just want a great war flick, this rates in there with "Saving Private Ryan", "We were Soldiers", "Black Hawk Down",and "Band of Brothers"
One of the best buys I have made on EBay.
My advice, get yourself a set of these DVDs now. You will thank yourself many times down the road.
