Which isn't to say Moore can't resist succumbing some small-town pandering -- he fetishizes pickup truck and bait, offers the NRA a potential anthem in "Guns" ("as long as I'm alive and breathing/you won't take my guns") -- nor has his voice suddenly gained muscle or grit but, contrary to its title, Outlaws Like Me doesn't rely heavily on macho boasts, so he's able to deliver these songs easily with his clean tenor twang. Much of the echoing, arena-ready stomp of his debut has been sanded away, leaving a leaner country-rock that can convincingly dip its toe in hardcore country à la David Allan Coe ("If You Don't Like My Twang"). These tougher numbers -- the ones written in the outlaw tradition Moore claims to be heir apparent -- are the best moments here because the music packs a punch that carries through on the promise of Moore's braggadocio, a situation that rarely happened on his debut, but happens enough here to make this a much better record. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

I bought this CD because I was driving in the car and the song "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away" came on; it brought tears to my eyes (as I was trying to drive)! Then I went online and watched the "AWESOME" music video for this song; I was sold!
Justin Moore writes songs about his life, which makes them so great! I also bought his CD "Justin Moore - Justin Moore", which is better than this CD. It has several great songs like "How I Got To Be This Way", "Small Town USA", "Backwoods", "Back That Thing Up", "I Could Kick Your Ass" and "Grandpa". It includes music videos for "Back That Thing Up" - "TOO hot for TV" and "Small Town USA". There's also music videos for the first four songs online; check it out! I bought both CDs at the same time, but if I had to do it over again, I'd buy "Justin Moore - Justin Moore" (but then I wouldn't have the song "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away")! So... it's your call!
I had only heard his release of "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away" and really loved the song which is the reason that I bought it but after hearing the cd I was surprised at how many of the other songs I really like and seem to stay in my head after listening to them. A very pleasant surprise!

who is married, and recently had baby. He is a devoted husband and father -- AND he can write music and most of all sing it.
