Album Notes
ORIGINAL MASTERS contains songs from 1969-77.All songs written by Ian Anderson.ORIGINAL MASTERS contains songs from 1969-77.Anyone who owned a radio in the 1970s knows most of these songs by heart. A comprehensive retrospective of the career of Jethro Tull, this collection gathers the group's big hits and fan favorites, while also including early chestnuts that may not be familiar to listeners who weren't there the first time around. Showcasing an eight-year period during which the group rose to international prominence, ORIGINAL MASTERS includes at least one song from nearly every year of Tull's steady rise, from 1969's "Living in the Past" to the title track of 1977's SONGS FROM THE WOOD.This is an ideal set for people who want to skim the cream off the top of the Tull songbook. All the essential songs are here--"Aqualung," "Locomotive Breath," "Bungle in the Jungle" "Skating Away," etc., but some of the other choices provide valuable historical perspective. Early songs such as the impassioned "Witch's Promise" from 1970's BENEFIT show off the unique sound Tull possessed before 1971's AQUALUNG transformed them into a monster rock band.

The Pied Piper

First let me say that I have always been a fan of the band Jethro Tull. Now my kids are growing up and finding out about classic rock through games like Guitar Hero. While Tull doesn't have any songs for download on the game yet that I know of, my kids have recently "discovered" them by my mass purchasing of CD's off the internet to quench their musical thirst. After listening to all the top rock "albums" and artists of the 60's, 70's and 80's, they mentioned that they are growing in admiration for Tull's brand of music. I was mildly surprised. I guess that they like the sophistication and originality of this band.
Tull is not for everyone, I suppose, but if you are inclined to an unusual kind of rock with a hint of ...no, not an American blues or jazz singer... but maybe a youthful, fun-loving minstrel troubadour with a touch of the court jester, try a hop skip through the fields of England with lead singer Ian Anderson and his magical flute. It will be enriching, or as Ian would be more apt to say, enchanting. Rock on! Oh, and by the way, this CD captures the soul of Jethro Tull completely. So buy it with confidence.

Jethro Tull......Smooth music

To begin with I've been a Jethro Tull fan for a long time. Their sound was always unique in the Rock N' Roll era. I love Ian Anderson's whimsical flute playing and the words to the music. This compilation was a nice addition to all of the other Tull albums I have (I know, if you're a "youngster" you probably don't have albums). I love the fact that I get to take it along in my car...can't do that with an album. I don't dislike anything about the cd. I purchased it originally as an item I needed for a scavanger hunt...it was a bonus that I happen to thoroughly enjoy Jethro Tull.

Tull is Tull

Excellent music! Those of us that grew up during this era often called The Classic Rock Era can see there is more great music. Most people think Classic Rock is the Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin, but it is much more. Jim Croce and The James Gang were popular Bar musics. America, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young out grew the folk repertoire. The Doobie Brothers, The Steve Miller Band, Yes, The J. Geil's Band, David Bowie, and The Eagles were great live. Jethro Tull was a standard in dormitory life. They all are still great.

A classic CD for those of us who enjoy classic 70s rock

A great selection of JTs classics...and I ain't talking James Taylor. This has all the best Jethro Tull songs and if you like JT, you'll love this CD. Very high quality recordings. Perfect for those of you who are "too old to Rock but too young to Die". I also like James Taylor too but already had his best stuff!

Just Awful!

Only good song on this one is Aqualung. The rest of this CD is god awful, it's even worse than the Benefit CD I just wrote a review on....so bad I couldn't even listen to all of it. Hubby hated it, too. I don't remember Tull being so bad!
