Movie synopsis
Tony Jaa follows in the powerful martial arts footsteps of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li in ONG-BAK: THE THAI WARRIOR, one of the first films to center on the ancient fighting system of Muay Thai, which utilizes the body's limbs to potentially devastating effect. Jaa stars as Ting, a quiet young man who lives in the peaceful village of Nong Pradu. As the village's special celebration approaches, a Bangkok villain named Don (Wannakit Siriput) steals the head of the Buddha statue Ong-Bak, which is said to protect the village from bad luck. Ting volunteers to go to the big city to bring back the head of Ong-Bak, but remembers what he was taught by sage monk Pra Cru (Woranard Tantipidok): he must not use his Muay Thai skills to harm people. However soon after arriving in Bangkok, Ting, a peaceful fish out of water, finds that the only way to recapture the village's sacred treasure is by using his arms, his legs--and his head.Influenced by the films of Thai action star Phanna Rithikrai, director Prachya Pinkaew hired the Muay Thai expert to serve as martial arts and stunt choreographer for ONG-BAK, resulting in highly effective and believable scenes between Ting and a multitude of criminals and evil boxers out to get him. Pinkaew adds a fun sense of humor to the serious story, not only in some of the crazy stunts but also in the character of George, played by Thai comic Petchthai Wongkamlao. Jaa is charmingly fearless in the lead role, performing all his own stunts without any special effects, computer enhancement, or ropes.

Pure Martial Arts Classic!

Review For: Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior (DVD, 2005)

\\Background//
I know many who enjoy watching Jackie Chan movies, Bruce Lee movies and even Jet Li movies are popular. But I have never seen such a consensus of greatness as I did from Ong-Bak. The moves here prove Tony Jaa is All-Star when it comes to Martial Arts and MVP in the Muai Thai area. All who see this movie will agree, Tony Jaa is to Martial arts, as Lebron James is to Basketball.

\\Plot//
In a small, farming, Thai Village a sacred Buddha Statue head is stolen and taken to Bangkok by a ruthless crime boss named Khom Tuan. The town is heart-broken and are all devestated, they send young Ting, an Orphaned youngster to return their precious Ong-Bak head. Ting is schooled in the deadly Nine Body Weapons system of Muai Thai and travels to the cruel streets of Bangkok to exact revenge and return the towns staute from the underworld.

\\Cast//
Tony Jaa is a proven leader in Martial Arts, using mothing but pure skill, meaning no wires supports or stunt doubles. Famed Thai actor Pumwazree Yodkamol does an excellent job as playing Ting s cousin George. George is a clumsy, hilarious, money-driven man who leeches to Tingès talent.

\\Summary//
This movie will go down as a classic among classics. If you do not see this, there is SO much you are missing. The jaw-dropping martial arts, the controversial no-help technique by Tony Jaa, and the Plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Basically, If you miss this movie, you miss the revolution.

moves that would send jackie chan to the chiropractor!

Review For: Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior (DVD, 2005)

THERE ARE NO STUNT DOUBLES DOUBLES AND NO SPECIAL EFFECTS...
just CRAZY INSANE MARTIAL ARTS. Nothings fake, real fire, real kicks, when people fall, they really fall. Actors broke bones for this. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!

Tony Jaa, the fighting superstar "destined for film's martial arts pantheon" electrifies as Ting, a religious young warrior who swears an oath of peace. But when the head of Ong Bak, his village's sacred statue, is stolen, he heads for Bangkok to recover it from a ruthless crime lord at any cost. This film is "exhilarating" with relentless, fever-pitched action free of stunt doubles and special effects, Jaa performs moves that would send Jackie Chan to the chiropractor!

Great action, not so good plot, good fight scenes.

Review For: Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior (DVD, 2005)

If you like martial arts movies or at least amazing physical feats this is the one for you. If a cohesive, intricate plot line that enriches your soul and touches your inner being is important.... skip it. Tony Jaa is pound for pound the most amazing (acrobatic) martial artist I have seen. My favorite is still Jet Li, but he is supposedly quitting the biz. This movie and Tom Yum Goong (The Protector) are great showcases for Jaa. I hope he makes some big budget films that utilize his formidable skills and have a good plot. If not, I still like watching him inflict pain on the "bad guy" very much. His version of Muy Thai is awesome, I feel sorry for his stunt guys! Most of the time I watch movies for their entertainment value and not their plot. I do have times when a good plot is a must though. I thought the multiple camera angles to show that there aren't props to help the stunt are surprising. Like Jackie Chan, he appears to do all of his own stunts. Unlike Jackie Chan's movies which have Jackie acting silly as he does martial arts this is a revenge movie. I am a big fan of revenge movies and competition type martial arts movies. don't get me wrong I loved crouching chicken hidden monkey, and Hero etc... If need more on the story, check out the trailer online. It is pretty simple, someone steals the villages idol and he kicks all kinds of butt getting it back.

Great Martial Arts as good as Jet Li

Review For: Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior (DVD, 2005)

This is a great movie for any martial arts action fan. If you love watching Jackie Chan or Jet Li movies this is the one you must see. The plot is very simple, the head of a statue is stolen, the poeple of the town are very poor but they raise enough money to send their warrior out to find the statue's head and bring it back to the people.

Well what makes this movie great is the fast pace and intense martial arts action. Early in the movie you see many stunning stunts and great choreographed fight scenes. The action is so good that you start to get into it and you feel the power and impact of the performance.

The only thing that does bother me about the movie is that there are 3 or 4 scenes in the movie that are replayed from different angles in order to show you the technique used. This is cool I suppose but can get a little annoying after a while. Still it's only 3 or 4 scenes.

For any martial arts fan or just a fan of action movies this is a great one to watch. The story line is fairly simple and the actors are foriegn but overall a great movie.

I love this movie, it has some of the best stunts I've ever seen. The guy in this movie (Tony Jaa) is awesome he is like Jackie Chan,Jet Li, and Bruce Lee all mixed into one. I happened to catch this movie on one night and I said to myself "I have to get this movie!" You will love this movie if you like martial arts movies with great fight scenes and awesome stunts, I don't know how this guy does some of this stuff he does- he is amazing.
