| This camera has “tough” in the name for a reason -- the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 is built to withstand the most rugged conditions. Boasting revolutionary designs inside and out, this Olympus digital camera model is equipped to travel virtually anywhere. A durable exterior and reinforced screen not only provide protection against accidental drops of up to 6.6 ft, but they also keep the unit snapping pictures in freezing temperatures as low as 14 F. And thanks to a team of waterproof seals and gaskets, the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 will even continue to operate as deep as 33 feet under water. This 14.0 MP digital camera complements its brawny side with a nice touch of technical savvy. Inclusion of Advanced Facial Recognition technology comes in handy for autofocusing shots and adjusting exposure for optimal sharpness. Users can also use AF tracking to further optimize shots with this Olympus digital camera, which maintains continual focus even when a subject is moving. Furthermore, shooting home movies in crystal clear HD can be done with the click of a button right from the camera; there is no need to reach for the camcorder. Although this 14.0 MP digital camera unit only comes with 2 GB of internal memory, it supports SD memory cards for easy storage upgrades. The Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 is a smart buy for the seasoned photo taker, as well as the one who might be a little clumsy. | |

"Extremely rugged for a compact; very good feature set; full, built-in user manual; 1.6GB of internal memory for photos, video."
Frustratingly slow performance; soft photos; pricey.
"The Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 is rugged on the outside, but average on the inside."

This camera is a very good buy for what you get. The features are similiar to the more expensive cameras and the all round quality of the pictures is excellent. Being both waterproof and freezeproof are great features as to the fact I use it primarily outdoors. The Olympus computer program is the most simple setup and user frienly I've ever used. You just hookup the camera and retrieve all you photos and do whatever you want with them.
I absolutely love this camera so far. I used it to take some of my pictures for my senior prom and they looked really good for the price of the camera. The waterproof capability is simply amazing. I haven't used it much in constant water exposure but just the fact I can get a little fish slime on it and simply wash it off is awesome! The interface is also very user friendly. Since I'm a guy and I don't want a lot of complicated settings to worry with, the camera gives a brief description when you cycle between different settings that tells you exactly what that setting would be useful for. I bought this camera to go with me on my outdoor adventures and not have to worry about getting it wet or dropping it. With this camera I'm sure I won't have to worry about either of those things
I bought this to shoot photos of whales right from the water surface as a substitute for a Dicapac waterproof case, which proved NOT to be waterproof upon testing. I care for: Waterproof down to 33ft, Freeze resistant down to 14°F, Shockproof from drops of up to 6.6ft, Crushproof up to 220lbs. Tap control for easy camera control when pressing the small buttons is not possible, 5x optical zoom lens, especially the 2GB internal memory and One-Touch video recording button, zoom from 28mm wide to the 140mm telephoto - I do not care about the 4 creative art filters and the 14-Megapixel imaging sensor which shows noise already at medium ISO settings.
You do not have too many choices for a camera with all those features, and I can recommend the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 as a go anywhere compact addition to Pro or Semi Pro equipment as well as a stand alone compact P&S, if you weigh in at the “Tough” part. It came out with a MSRP of 399.00, which is too high IMO, however since time goes on, prices become much more reasonable. Get a second battery and a in car 12V charger!
A perfect upgrade to an already awesome camera.
This Camera defies ruggedness and outdoor usefulness. It has every feature one could ask for and more. Being a current owner of the Stylus Touch 6020, I was more than keen to upgrade to the better version since my current was great in every way except for its depth capabilities. I have not managed to take one bad photo with this Camera as of yet. Its always with me, in my pocket ready for that perfect picture, be it swimming, running, Quad biking, Kayaking, Fishing, heck even Paintball, it soaks it all up in its stride and works flawlessly every time. Its only negative is it suffers from slower than normal start up times, but given the design and other features it is something that I can definitely overlook.
I recommend this to any sports person that wants a good solid reliable camera that is not scared of water or mud, vibration or shocks.
Perfect camera! I bought it because I've lost my previous Olympus µ-Tough 8010. It is excellent for travelling and vocations! In case you want to make pictures and videos under the sea or on the top of a mounting - no better camera than this one. Unfortunately this model is out of date and is not produced any longer. The newly models are equipped with GPS and have some other not interesting for me features but have worse main characteristics. You can swim and dive with it on you hand, go to cold places and even drop on a road - it wouldn't be broken. I like this camera. There are no other so good-looking and reliable devices yet.
