This is a great camera especially for it's quality lens with both a good wide angle and zoom capability which is fairly rare. I had two Stylus 7010's one got lost and the other screen got cracked. This one is much better because it takes a regular size SD card instead of the XD which had an adapter for micro SD but then it was small and fragile and more expensive for just 4gb. The battery life is great and with a few extra batteries and 16 GB SD seems like it would last for weeks without charging or downloading photos. I am starting to get used to the menus and try some of the features, but mostly just flash and macro so far. It has decent low light capability if you hold it steady. I did notice the title of this review says "tough" but I think the Stylus tough is a different model that is highly shock resistant and waterproof. This model does not say Tough on it anywhere, but I have dropped it on concrete once or twice and it still works fine. The "tough" models were much more expensive and do not have the wide angle or zoom as much. I especially appreciated the cost as I think it was only about $75 used which to me, unless you wanna use it at the pool or in the boat, there is more a chance of loosing the $350 tough version than breaking this one. In my opinion it was the most economical choice especially since I already had two batteries and chargers that fit the 7010's that I had before.
I like the camera and it's editing features. Nice size and really lightweight. But there is no SD card slot. So you have to rely on the internal memory and uploading your photos often. The most aggravating part of this camera is there is quite a long delay in the shutter activation which causes me to lose a lot of spontaneous shots. I prefer a camera with an immediate shutter response so that I can capture the immediate reaction of people... or an animal being playful... or the candid laughter of friends. That is the main reason I bought this camera is for those candid moments when I don't want to carry my larger, heavier Nikon D40X with me. People sometimes shy away from the more professional looking Nikon camera or they tend to "pose"..I was hoping this Olympus would help me around that. But the shutter delay is so noticeable and the pictures have proven that I m iss the majority of those shots.
This is a great little camera. I was looking for something low on price but with quality photo imaging for my daughter, this camera fit that bill. The 7030 takes great pictures and she is having ball "learning" to use it. The camera didn't come with any of the original accessories (which I knew in advance from the listing), but it takes the same battery/charger as the Olympus Stylus-7040 which we already owned. Over all we're all happy with the purchase.
Great and fast camera. Olympus are my favorite type of cameras.
I owned Olympus Cameras for a while and they are great priced items. Slim and will fit anywhere. Great for taking pictures of the beach, birds, family pics, or just any picture you want to keep as a memory. I personally bought the 8gb memory card so that gives me plenty of room to take many pictures. The re-chargable battery makes it easy to keep using camera as back in the days you had to buy batteries and keep replacing them. Now i am very glad not to keep replacing my batteries simply just recharge it and its good to go. Theres no research you have to do for this camera its a great buy.
the 7030 is really loaded for it's size. I repair these and have purchased more than 1 in recent months. I like the fact that Olympus finally went to SD cards and got away from the XD card with an adapter. I also noticed as I had one of these apart that the internal memory is a micro SD card in a slot. My project camera now has 8GB internal memory, and 16 GB SD card in the slot...I'll need to change a bunch of batteries before I need to download this camera...should prove useful on vacations...(I use this as a back up camera...something that fit's in the pocket easily.) I do advise anyone who gets one of these to get a screen protector because the screen is easily broken, otherwise it has been a great camera to use and takes great pictures!
