"Oliver & Co", the Oliver Twist based Disney classic, finally gets the DVD release it deserves. This disc contains a digitally remastered transfer of the film which removes the dust and other such nastiness that plagued the first release. In addition, the film has been painstakingly touched up greatly enhance the quality of the film's appearance, impressively cleaning up the lines and colors. The movie looks like you're watching the first projection of the film in the theater.
Unfortunately, this film was released before "The Little Mermaid", which is widely regarded as the movie that began Disney's renaissance period. This period included Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, and Pocahontas. Due to this, this film is consistently overlooked. However, this movie has a fantastic cast including Billy Joel, Bette Midler, the always phenomenal Dom DeLuise, and Cheech Marin. In classic Disney fashion, the music is also top notch. After a single viewing, I guarantee that you'll be humming "Why Should I Worry" performed by the incredible Billy Joel(who also voices "Dodger") for a week. This movie is absitively good enough to be considered a classic among these.
This Disney classic has never looked or sounded better. I'm glad they finally got around to giving this great movie a DVD release it deserves.
I love this movie. I have since I was 3 years old and still do at 29. I think this movie started the awesome song era from Disney. Awesome , catchy music from Billy Joel and Bette Midler, and when you mix Dom Deluise in the mix, you have a classic movie.
This is based on the story, Oliver Twist. I could watch this movie over and over and by the end you will have "New York city heart" too!
I am an Disney DVD collector and was so excited to add Oliver and Company to my collection. The quirky tale of a dog trying to find a home, mixed with the awesome other characters really makes for a thrilling ride down the traditional Charles Dikens tale of Oliver Twist... Disney style of course. Complete with unforgetable songs, script and characters this movie is defeintly something you want in your collection!
Disney does Dickens in this animated version of Oliver Twist, in which a homeless New York City cat falls in with a bunch of mischievous dogs under the leadership of the appealing scoundrel Fagin. The roots of Disney's success with animation in the '90s begins with this clever, energetic, atmospheric movie, which succeeds in capturing the grim world Dickens conjured.
This Disney classic is a wonderful movie from the old days. When you watch this movie you will look at the homeless (people, dogs and cats) a bit differently and hopefully more sympathetically. Disney brings innocence and sincerity to this story like only Disney can.
