The Nokia 808 cellphone is pretty incredible. It is easy to use, has good build quality, and best of all an amazing camera.
The operating system, Nokia (Symbian) Belle has a nice interface, it is fast and responsive, intuitive, and somewhat customizable.
The web browser is good. It loaded all the pages I tried fairly fast and plays flash content.
Nokia maps is great. You can download the maps over Wi-Fi or mobile data right on the phone. Once you have the maps saved on the phone, there is no need for a data connection of any kind. GPS connects very fast, often under a minute, and turn by turn voice navigation works as good if not better than a stand alone GPS. It even has the option to say street names. If you are using the maps with a data connection, you can have traffic updates.
Office Mobile application from Microsoft comes with the phone and allows you not only read documents, spreadsheets, and power point, but you can edit them, and create your own.
The camera on the phone opens up fast and has various shooting modes. You can choose to use the PureView mode which creates a 5 MP (or 8 or 3 MP ) image from the 41 MP sensor. What this does is create very nice images in a small size format. The 5 MP image will look comparably better than a 5 MP image from other cameras or phones. Another option is to keep the image at 41 MP (38 MP in 4:3 aspect and 34 MP in 16:9 aspect). This creates incredible images. I compared the images to my Sony a55 DSLR with a Tamron 90mm macro lens, and was very impressed with what the 808 can do.
Camera allows selection of various scene modes, ISO settings, and white balance settings. There are however, no aperture, or shutter controls. The camera application can connect to GPS and tag your photographs with GPS coordinates.
Video recording, like still photos is also very good. The 41 MB sensor allows you to zoom in losslessly. Recording at 1080p allows for a 4x lossless zoom. Video bit rate is around 20 000 kbps. Sound recording is great also, and will record at a loud concert with no distortion.
The phone has many other interesting features, but one which is fairly rare to see on a cellphone is FM transmitter. This option allows you to play music through the phone and broadcast it on a chosen FM frequency. I tested this feature with a home audio receiver connected to nice speakers, and in a car using the car radio. It works well and the sound quality is pretty good.
The Nokia 808 came in a small box. Inside along with the phone and battery, was a cable for data transfer and charging through USB, a wall adapter for charging, headphones with microphone, and small instruction booklet (not in English). The phone has mini HDMI output for which the cable is not included. 808 can also connect to a USB drive for file transfers, however the required cable is not included.
I have personally compared the 808 to Galaxy Nexus, and iPhone 4, and found the 808 to be the best. Even with low screen resolution, and single core CPU, the 808's interface, performance, features, and build quality make it a winner for me.
