The Wii U follows suit in Nintendo's Long line of amazing gaming machines over the years, The new Wii U Gamepd features a great touch screen right in the middle of a traditional styled controller, it has the luxury of having the ease of a Tablet and the buttons of a controller all rolled into one! Games take adavantage of this new controller like no other console before it. You can even bypass playing on your Television all together and just play the games right on your controllers screen with select titles! All of this in Glorious 1080p High definition graphics! Best of all if you owned the previous Wii System you can still use all the contollers and games for the new Wii U!!! This is bar none the ULTIMATE Gaming machine out on the market right now with games from Call of duty to Classics like Super Mario bros. The Wii U is the MUST HAVE system out there. Not to mention the systems other features like the Miiverse social network, Netflix, Hulu plus, Amazon Video, Nintendo TVii, Youtube, full internet browser, and the Virtual console which lets you play games from classic systems like Nintendo, Super Nintendo Nintendo 64, Gameboy Advance, Sega Master system, Genesis, Saturn, Colecovision, Atari. Commodore 64, and tons of Arcade hits, along witht he new Wii U eShop. So much to do so little time. GREAT SYSTEM!
The Nintendo Wii U Deluxe Console is truly an amazing system with upgraded graphics from 1080p vs the 480p on the original Wii. It is big upgrade from it's predecessor and it's implementation of its tablet into the gaming environment is near perfect. If the tablet is not right for you, not to worry because you can still use your old Wii accessories and games.
Set up is very easy in my opinion and learning to use the tablet is just as easy. If you've had the original Wii system then you shouldn't have any problems. If you do find yourself in a bind, the manual is really easy to navigate through and there are several tutorials on youtube. **Read my Side Notes**
With the tablet you can use it as a central device, controlling your television like a remote. It can also be used with your DVR and to search the WEB. Using it for Netflix is as easy as a few taps.
An amazing capability of the tablet is the ability to run Wii U games and applications from the tablet itself without the need for a television. What does this mean for others? It means that they can watch television or use another console, simultaneously while you use the Wii U. No more arguing about how much time someone has spent using the television and you can watch cable television while you play on the tablet!
What about the game selection? Like I mention previously, the Wii U is backwards compatible; you can not only play your old Wii games but Wii U games as well. There are plenty of titles to enjoy and many that will be soon coming out. Play your favorite "exclusive" titles like Donkey Kong, Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda & Pikmin.
If you had the original Wii then you may have heard of the Virtual Console. Download games from the N64, NES, SNES and more from the Nintendo Shop & play many from the tablet or with Wii remote.
**Side Notes**
* If you plan to bring the Wii U over to a friends house, keep in mind that if your home television is 1080p and your friends is 720p, you will have to manually adjust the settings from the Wii U tablet.
* There is a large update when you first connect to the internet. DO NOT SHUT THE SYSTEM OFF! It is a large file, it is updating even if it shows now change! Shutting off the system in the middle of the update will break your unit.
Wii U is a great console. The Gamepad adds more gameplay elements not seen anywhere else. ZombiU's multiplayer shows what the Gamepad can do, so I recommend buying that game first. Get the Deluxe version because Nintendoland really expresses the Gamepad elements, and what the future could bring on the Wii U console. A lot of big Wii U titles aren't coming until Fall to Winter and beyond that, titles such as Shadows of Eternals, 3D Mario game, Mario Kart, Watch Dogs, Deux Ex, Splinter Cell, Project Cars, Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Resident Evil Revelations, Call Of Duty Ghosts and possibly GTA V which is rumored to come, Batman Arkham Origins, and Assassins Creed IV. Eventually Metroid and others will follow suit obviously. So waiting until then wouldn't hurt. But the titles out now are including a solid list with ZombiU, Injustice Gods Among Us, Mario Bros U,Need For Speed Most Wanted U, Assassins Creed 3, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Call Of Duty BO2. 3rd party support looks good in Wii U's future despite getting the shaft from EA over the Origin deal. Nintendo makes up ground with their exclusives and other 3rd party games, and with Gamepad features that aren't on the other consoles.
Excellent and really fun new console from Nintendo. Launch games like New Super Mario Bros U, Nintendo Land, ZombiU, Nano Assault and many others are a blast to play, and there is so much more to come. The GamePad can be used as a second screen integrated to the TV gameplay-wise in ZombiU and Nintendo Land, as a tool for assymetrical gameplay in multiplayer games where one player has a completely different role from the others as seen in Nintendo Land, and also can be used for off-TV play in New Super Mario Bros U, Nano Assault Neo and Call of Duty Black Ops 2 where the gamepad can completely replace the TV. Like I said, there are many more games to come and I am really excited about future games and innovations.
I’m a Nintendo fan and love the console systems in the past, but the WII U bugs me. First off, when you get your system you must charge up the controller because all the set up menus are on the tiny controller screen. There is no to TV option when in setup mode, so if your screen controller ever breaks, your WII U settings will remain the same forever, or until you replace the controller.
Forever updates. I got it, charge controller, updated the system, (forever). Place one game in the system, (after the update) and it prompts me for an update. I was alright with this at first, but every time I stick in a game I have never played before, update. The system updates more than I play, (it may be a slight exaggeration but still an update whenever I play a new game, is very aggravating.)
The load times are ungodly slow for a modern system, My Wii loads faster than this thing, and if I was to compare it to another system I own, I would rate it as fast as my PS2 in load times, actually my PS2 boots faster.
In game plays loading, for Zombie U, is alright, except for when I resume a save game and return to an area, or after dying and returning to the area, it loads and I play, but the first door I open in the area, it loads again… but it’s fine after that. With the load times I will most likely die of old age before completing a game, (Again, it may be a slight exaggeration but still waiting sucks.)
The system itself seems well built, but the huge controller is lighter than I thought, and I am concern about its durability. I have a three year old and if she gets it once, I truly believe it will be done for.
The game selection is virtually nil, I have four games, and see no new ones one in the foreseeable future that I will be rushing out with blazing swords, trample the elderly and stomp the fates of evil to buy. The online shop has very little VC games compare to the Wii, and considering all the titles for the Wii, the online games for download should have been made compatible.
Overall, I’m disappointed in this release of a system. Do I plan to get rid of it? Probably not, because I am a Nintendo fan, but also I have small amount of hope one of the many, many, many updates this system preforms will fix my concerning issues, if not, I am hopeful of the homebrew community (please God somebody fix the loading) will release a HD loading feature to increase the speed of the games, the load times suck and seem to go on forever. I do enjoy playing the games I have, which are Zombie U, Mario, Nintendo Land and Ninja Gaiden.
Now if you are looking for a system with many games, then stay away for a bit, let Nintendo work out the kinks and quirks and release more titles, unless you want to play Wii games on it, then the library is huge. Me, I have a Wii with HD loader and prefer it to disc, (again my three year old is a bit destructive) If you are a Nintendo fan, you will already have the system, without rhyme or reason and will disregard most of what is written here.
If you are looking to play games with decent load times or at least a large gaming library, I’d recommend WII, or a Xbox 360. I don’t own a PS3 so I cannot compare it to the Wii u, but its game selection is much bigger than Wii u’s.
