The NES is a classic console. Many call 1980's the golden age of gaming, and for good reason. 1985 the NES came out in America and completely changed the game. The system was mind blowing for the time. All the accessories and graphics were impressive and it still holds up till this day.
I love the NES. There is a massive library of great games. From classic like Super Mario Bros. to lesser known, but great games like River City Ransom.
The controller is simple and great. One of the best D=pads ever. Having to blow into the cartridge every now and then can get tedious, but it won't be a problem with every game.
This is a great and amazing console for anybody. Don't ignore it because it's more than 20 years old. It's still as fun as ever. I have had so much fun playing Duck Hunt and Megaman 2.
Do yourself a favor and buy one of the best video game systems ever.
My older cousin used to have this console and for most of my childhood I grew up playing games like Mario Bros 1&2, Duckhunt, The Little Mermaid, and this one barbie game.
I have never forgotten how much fun it was so when I felt I finally could, I went on a search and found one.
The NES is a classic! Nowadays you have controllers with 4+ buttons on one side. With the NES, you only had the A and B buttons, a direction button, then the start and select buttons.
Sure it's not slim nor can it play movies, but it's the system that started it all.
Should the one I bought ever quit beyond all repair, I'll get another.
Just keep in mind, the original consoles, not the retro remakes, takes patience because they -are- older and have some kinks to be worked out, but that's all part of the fun!
The NES lets you play the old school 8-bit games that everyone of the time knew and loved. I purchased mine so I could review games on the internet and have fun. I also plan on buying many more games. Make sure you read a review for the games because a lot of them are terrible or just glitch out. I love my NES and I hope to use it for year to come.
If you want to reexperience the golden age of console gaming, then the Nintendo Entertainment System is the way to go.
Since no new games for the console are being manufactured due to the obvious age of the system, selection is limited. However, that does not mean that good games still cannot be found.
If you're like me, and not only want to relive a part of your childhood, but also finally get to play those games that were hard to find or your parents weren't able to get for you, then you won't be sorry. Games are relatively easy to find via the wonders of the internet. It's also been a perfect way to introduce my children to gaming, as many games for the platform are simple to grasp and don't have overly complicated control schemes.
You won't find HD graphics, cinematic cutscenes, or ground-breaking AI, but you will find many timeless classics.
In short, don't accept any emulations/substitutions - get the full experience (including blowing out those cartridges before playing them!) You won't be sorry.
This is a great system, first one ever put out by Nintendo my dad had one and so did my grandaddy. I love playing the classic games on it like Mario and Duck Hunt. It was a good game system for it's time and I still think it is. Honestly I like playing the original Mario Bros. on the NEW more than something like the Paper Mario game on the Wii. It's more fun to me.
