"Solid, compact design; extremely bright screen; removable long-lasting rechargeable battery; bargain price."
Still no standard headphone jack; tiny shoulder buttons; most games are skewed toward kids.
"Now that it has a brighter screen, Nintendo's Game Boy Advance SP is the budget champ for portable gaming."

As for the color, it's my favorite.
As for the design, it fits well in your hand as compared to a smaller GBA SP. I bought it as a gift for my boyfriend when he complained the SP hurt his hands to play because it was so tiny. The buttons wear down easier than the harder plastic ones found on the GBA SP. And there is no front/backlight. This makes it very difficult to see the screen.
Afterburner or Halo Light mod kits are available to install a frontlight with easy instructions, and also cheaper worm lights that plug into the top (creating glare rather than even lighting), but it might be more cost effective to just buy a GBA SP.
This review is based on how it compares today rather than its heyday. Its a great product but with the superior GBA SP and even more superior DSLite you can play your GBA games a few different ways but the original model doesn't compare to the new ones that's all. Its still an AMAZING console backed by its outstanding library of games.
If there was a god among handheld consoles....it would be the DS lite. But not too far from it would be...GBA SP but not too far from that would be this, the GBA. Amazing library of games and if it was backlit like the SP and DSLite, I'd call it perfect along with those other consoles. As well as being the cheapest at this point.
Sadly GBA SPs and moreso DS Lites are pretty expensive still. But these normal GBAs are pretty inexpensive. So if you don't want to go for the others. You can't go wrong with this model. Perfectly sized for your hands, stupid amazing game library its damn near perfect. Get one if you want to get into the handheld games that the GBA had. But if you can really help it, get the backlit GBA SPs instead. Amazing console that's second only to the models with better lighting.
Nintendo outdoes itself with the invention of the Advance line. Of course this system came out brand new when I was a kid about 10 years ago, but considering the ever interesting design, and the huge selection of games, I can't see it becoming outdated for many more years to come. Compared to the later SP model, it may be bigger and come without a back light, but it is much lighter to hold than either the SP or the Gameboy, pocket, or color.
The system easily fits into your hand and will not cause carpal tunel, it accepts two AA batteries, and the light is of course sold separately. There is also a wide variety of games that range from E to M.
Either for nostalgic purposes, or for a child's first handheld system. I highly recommend this system. A perfect 5/5 all round :)
It's a great system with a gargantuan selection of great games. I remember playing brand batteries out of the thing in 1 week on Super Mario World.
The value for this system is great, it's cheap and plays just as good as the newer GameBoy/DS systems, except for the frontlit screen. But Overall, it's an amazing system.
i bought it for my nostalgie memories. Screen has no light ,but i can play it under a light or day time. Batteries goes up to 8 hours. It is enough for time kill :) If you like 8-16 bit old games ,you can buy one of them.
